Are tradition and modernization incompatible as the speaker claims? I concede in some realms, the former should take place for the latter. However, in most situations, tradition is the base of modernization and both of them have great significance for the development of our society and there is no meaning to choose one of them.

Tradition and modernization are interweaved, we cannot choose one while another. When learning through the history, we can find that many of our contemporary human civilizations are built up on traditional merits and become more and more mature when adding modern elements. A good example is the development of Anglo-American law system. Although since the revolution and development of human society, there are lots of changes of the laws, nevertheless, our modern law system are largely depend on the ancient ones and we can also find many traces of the old law items, especially for people's ethic and moral principles. Today, many lawyers make use of both traditional and modern criterions for defending; Therefore, tradition and modernization are both indispensable parts of contemporary law system. Similarly, language is also a typical example to indicate that modernization is based on tradition and people today utilize all of them to enrich our language culture. Hence, from what I have stated above, we can see that without tradition, modernization will lose its basics to depend on, without modernization, tradition will also be deprived the opportunity of development. Therefore, in some situation, it is stupid for people to choose between them.

In contemporary society, traditional and modernization all play crucial part in our daily lives, combing them may help people attain the best goal. Traditional is the crystal of our ancestors’ wisdom if we correctly link tradition and modernization, we can acquire a better result than only rely on one of them. For instance, in China, doctors utilize both traditional medicine and modern medical technology to treat their patients in that traditional medicine is of good effect to some chronic disease so they can be used as efficient ways to enhance the patient’s immunity and body resistance. With the help of traditional medicine, doctors find that their patients can own better health compare with only reckon on modern medicine. From the foregoing example, we can recognize that combine traditional and modern ways together may make our work more efficiency so we should not blindly choose only one of them.

Admittedly, not in every condition should we choose both of them. There are still some situations that tradition should yield to modern ones, in that modern one stands for higher level. A case in point is today's education. It is known to all that traditional education just emphasize the importance of knowledge while overlook other more important aims of education. For one thing, traditional education didn't pay attention to raise the students' nature ability, such as reasoning, analyzing and so on, but pour information to child, which has been tested by modern society a fail way of nurture our children. For another, traditional education also omits the necessity of adding social skill to students’ curriculum, which also cannot prepare a student for his/her social responsibility. On the contrary, mourned education has recognized the importance of what I stated and many contemporary students have obtained a high quality of education. In this situation, modernization rather than traditional should be our choice.

In sum, in most situations, tradition and modernization are crucial part for contemporary society and people have no reason to simply separate one from another and blindly choose one of them. While when compare the modern education with the old ones, we should choose the latter to cultivate our ancestors.

全文重点放在了tradition和modernization到底选择哪一个还是都选的问题，对于compatible的讨论少了点，当然如果两个都选的话显然是compatible的，但是你忽略了本题的一个背景，那就是有的时候传统和现代是冲突的，比如艺术上，传统流派演化到现代流派，在建筑上，有古代风格和现代风格。
