Issue: "Choice is an illusion. In reality, our lives are controlled by the society in which we live."

Are we privileged to make decisions of our own, or controlled by the society we live? I agree insofar as that in many cases we are constrained, but if this view is taken to extreme, that is to say, we make every decision catering the society rather than taking into account of our own desire or judgment, some tragically or ridiculous conclusions would be drew.

People do make their decisions often under the guideline of catering the society, for this is the best way to avoid unnecessary conflict and bias. The clothing pattern of most people supports this point of view. There will not be a lot of people who ware something as strange as what they ware on carnival when they are working in the office, just because coworkers, more importantly, bosses do not appreciate it. To avoid the curious staring from coworkers and save the chance of earning a life for ourselves, we had better leave those clothes, even though we adore it, to the leisure time of our own.

Though what stated above is often the cases, it is not absolutely. Many significant progresses we made in the course of human development are from the slim cases that some unusual people stand up to a view commonly accepted by the society. Not every commonsense is authentic, and the development of society, in great proportion, is to eliminate these misunderstandings. Ironically, the development of the society often brings its initiators, those who contradict traditional views, under the circumstance of confronting the society itself. If not by the death of Bruno and the jail of Galileo, we probably still tragically believe in a cosmic turning around the earth. They did have the chance to "be controlled by the society", but they refuse, and made choices of their own, and then the history of human being is rewritten.

Contrary to the horrible confrontation with the society, we often have a better alternative to balance the individuals and the society. When there is a natural disaster, kind people around the world donate to help those endangered. Do we donate all we have just because it is too urgent a matter? Absolutely not, we compromise the need of both sides and make the wise decision to donate an affordable part of what we have. In this way, we made our choice to be kind enough to ourselves while considering the need to cater the society, and avoid a silly decision that may be made under the rigid guideline "to be controlled by the society".

In sum, choice is not an illusion, though in some cases it is indeed impossible. We can take some good chance to insist on our own believe and prove the greatness of human being, and, even better, compromising our choice and the society to gain a desirable outcome.

在下愚见：
1。Issue: "Choice is an illusion. In reality, our lives are controlled by the society in which we live."
首先看题目：说的是在现实社会中人们没有选择的权利，选择不过是一种幻想。但是在下面的分析中，感觉没对选择和社会的关系进行深入地分析；
2。个人感觉用人们在office穿衣服来说明人们需要顺应社会有点别扭，因为这个例子不是太典型，很多单位穿衣服很随便的。就算是用穿衣服讲，也最好不要说是为了avoid unecessary conflict and bias，和本题目没什么关系，可以说正式的谈判场合就要穿正装，这是社会上的一种默认规则，可以体现社会对我们选择、行为的限制。
3。其实第三段开头可以说，社会是有限制，不过人还是在这个大的框架内有选择的权利，有选择的能动性，然后再展开，可能会更好些。甚至有些时候我们可以摒弃常规，作出惊人的选择。

我也是新手，愚见，呵呵。
