185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
--------------------------------------

In the statement, the speaker asserts that focusing public attention on problems that no speaker or reformer ever could, scandals such as those in the field of politics, academy, or others could be useful to the society. From this point of view, I strongly agree with the speaker’s statement. However, like something else, scandals are two-edged sword, having advantages and disadvantages all the same. On the one hand, they could be used to draw public attention to certain social problems. While on the other hand, it could waste public time, energy and funds to unmeaning issues.

In the first place, in the era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing human life complexity and psychological displacement, scandals could be easily found in many different fields, such as politics, economy, and even sports. The Nixon’s Watergate Affair is a classic instance in political realm. Without the scandals’ surfacing, the public could not pay such attention to the political problems from speakers and reformers. In the economic realm, a good example is the financial scandal of the AA which was one of the world “BIG FIVE” accounting firm companies. Thus, the problems of the world financial system are will considered by the public. Another example is the scandal of football corruption, so-called “black whistle” in China, which is not made much account of before. Now the “black whistle” has draw increasing attention.

In the second place, scandals can serve to reveal social problems that a community or society should address and thus help us to creating a better society. In this point of my opinion, the utilization function of scandals is totally equal to the meaning which is expressed in the speaker's assertion. The excellent instance is Anron scandal which is well-known in the United States. The Anron’s scandal can shed some light to this point. The bankruptcy of Anron is the most serious business failure in United States. Anron concealed a great amount of financial deficit from public and continually asked government and some companies to provide more fund for its further thriving. Because of the ill-management, Anron confronted a precarious situation and went to bankruptcy. After the scandal was announced in the public, the legislators made an introspection and soon came with many effective laws concerning regulating the management of a company.

Last but not least, scandals can sometimes distract us from more important and pressing social issues. The famous sex scandal of former president of American Bill Clinton is a case in point. As far as I am concerned, the large amount of the public resources
Which are spent on probing into the intimate details between Clinton and Lewinsky are wasted. The funds would be more beneficial to the world if they could be spent in helping the sick children in the Africa or otherwise be used for addressing the problems of the environment pollution and unemployment in America.

To sum up, people and public attention spent on scandals which is hard or unwilling to unveil by speakers or reformers is useful to community and society as a whole. In this perspective, I entirely agree with the speaker's claim. However, on the other hand, public attention is so focus that it should be introduced to significant social issues, not wasting to unimportant problems by the mass media.

185"Scandals—whether in politics, academia, or other areas—can be useful. They focus our attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could."
--------------------------------------

In the statement, the speaker asserts that focusing public attention on problems that no speaker or reformer ever could, scandals such as those in the field of politics, academy, or others could be useful to the society( 这个长句的后半部好象有问题,focusing public attention on problems这个分句少了动词,不然就是跟scandals such as those in the field of politics, academy, or others could be useful to the society连不起来,这个restate 看起来特别的怪诞,比较弄不明白什么意思).

In the first place, in the era of rapid social and technological change leading to increasing human life complexity and psychological displacement, scandals could be easily found in many different fields, such as politics, economy, and even sports.( such as politics, economy, even sports and so on. 这样的表达是不是看起来跟符合你要表达的中文??) The Nixon’s Watergate Affair is a classic instance in political realm.(这样的例子看起来是挺好的,但是放在这段里面好象都衔接不上去呢) Without the scandals’ surfacing, the public could not pay such attention to the political problems from speakers and reformers.( 到这里,你就转到另外一个例子去了,前面哪个基本都没有怎么用上呢) In the economic realm, a good example is the financial scandal of the AA which was one of the world “BIG FIVE” accounting firm companies. Thus, the problems of the world financial system are will considered by the public. Another example is the scandal of football corruption, so-called “black whistle” in China, which is not made much account of before. Now the “black whistle” has draw increasing attention.( TS是说scandal便地是,然后中间又转了一个话题就是scandal大量的引起人门的注意。但是一段最好只说明一个问题的好。容易乱)

In the second place, scandals can serve to reveal social problems that a community or society should address and thus help us to creating a better society.(看,这个TS跟上面的后半段直接的REPEAT,至少是partly restate) In this point of my opinion, the utilization function of scandals is totally equal to the meaning which is expressed in the speaker's assertion. The excellent instance (这样的例子可以用excellent来形容??难道他们干的好??呵呵chenlish) is Anron scandal which is well-known in the United States.

The funds would be more beneficial to the world if they could be spent in helping the sick children in the Africa or otherwise (or otherwise 两个重复了)be used for addressing the problems of the environment pollution and unemployment in America.

To sum up, people and public attention spent on scandals which is (are) hard or unwilling to unveil by speakers or reformers is useful to community and society as a whole. In this perspective, I entirely agree with the speaker's claim. However, on the other hand, public attention is so focus that it should be introduced to significant social issues, not wasting to unimportant problems by the mass media.

当一个东西得到后,才知道其实不是你真正想要的,而你已经为这个东西付出了,,大的不能再大的代价,,,但是也许这就是一种成长。。。

生活还在继续,我还是要艰难的活下去~~~~
