Is it easy for one able to adapt to changing social conventions without sacrificing his principle? This dilemma may be most people encounter in their daily lives. It is true that to be seasoned with the growingly progressive world is too difficult for most people. However, I strongly agree with the speaker's assertion man’s true character depends on he can be able to adapt the changing social convention under the precondition that he also remain consistently committed to his principles. After all, that true gold fears not the fire.

To begin with, as an individual, a noble character always win him respect and reverence by others, so it is important for one to keep his principles for it can be distinguished when he is interacting with others around. An adult, even a child has their own principles and styles in dealing with something in that these features are firmly rooted in his mind, influenced by his family, traditional conventions or communities around when he was born. He may see the world with his unique way since he has imposed his own value or thinking on it. In addition, one's perspective and principles to some extent depend his educational background, religious beliefs and their different professions. It is apparent that Plato' principles or laws of envisioning the world or even dealing with the social relationship are distinctly different with a peasant’s of his time while the Jew will never understand Adolf Hitler’s intention and beliefs.   

Nevertheless, on the other hand, it is difficulty to persist one's principles in this world, which is changing with fantastic speed. With the time of globalization and development of science and technology, relation between all parts of the world becomes closer and closer. Thus materials living of human being become abundant and people also become more pragmatic than before. It is popular that pursuing fame and money are the goals of many people, even some one consider them as their final objectives. This is the very corrupted convention among majority and most of them are assimilated by the conventions. After all, keeping one's principles is too difficult for common one when temptation is before him.

Therefore, adapting the changing conventions but without sacrificing his principles considered to be the most valuable character of such person. We know that science is progressing, human civilization is developing and society is changing, which are overwhelming trendy. Thus our living styles, values, and conventions are changing with them. If one cannot able to improve him and flexibly adjust his goals or beliefs to a certain extend, he will be eliminated by the history of human progress just like Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection. It is true that in this process one may be annoyed, discouraged or even depressed. However, this very psychology is unavoidable and demonstrates that you are changing and progressing.

In the final analysis, society is facing toward and human beings are making ahead, which may bring us challenges but more are opportunities. So actively cater to the demand our time enduing with us and relentlessly improve us with the trendy forward, but even valuable one can persist our principles and resist with the changing conventions.
