Issue 185
“Scandals whether in politics, academia, or other areas can be useful. They focus out attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Are scandals useful in politics, academia and other areas to focus out attention on problems in ways that no speaker or reformer ever could, as the speaker asserts? As far as I am concerned, I totally agree with the speaker’s opinion for the following reasons: First, scandals reveal many problems in our society which are concealed before. Moreover, scandals draw the attention of the public on these problems and propel relevant measures to solve or prevent them.
First of all, scandals can make us realize that our society or country is replete with all kinds of serious even disastrous problems which speakers or reformers can not 缺少谓语. As scandals always appear in the way which is distinct and remarkable, the majority of the public tends to pay attention to them. However, speakers and reformers do not have the ability to make so many people to concern a certain affair although they themselves are aware of the problems. A case in point is the bankruptcy of Enron, the self-proclaimed World’s Leading Energy Company, which discloses the serious individualism and the lack of humility in the company environment as well as blind diversity in the development tactic tactics 好象该词一直用复数形式 of the company. But for the scandal, the public would have not realized these fatal issues existing in the companies which appear flourish apparently.
Furthermore, scandals also stimulate the public or the government to take relevant measures to prevent these problems. The Nixon’s Watergate Affair is a classic instance, which reveals the abuse of president power in the political realm in the United States. After the affair had surfaced, legislations about limiting the power of the president established and effectively decreased the occurrence of such affairs. Another example is the incitant scandal of the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALC). This company was accused of providing stimulant containing THG to many famous athletes who were regarded as heroes of their nation before the scandal. Because of the incitant scandal, relevant laws and technologies about anti-drug were propelled. Therefore, scandals are helpful to solve these societal problems quickly and effectively.
On the other hand, some might point out that scandals will focus too much attention of the public on the details of the affair and ignore the more important aspects该成这样好不好: On the other hand, some might point out that scandals always focus too much attention of the public on the specificed details, while ignoring the more important respects, The scandal of Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky is usually cited as an example in which the media and public has pay so much attention on the private lives of the two parties that they failed to take an insight into the societal significance of this affair. However, such a situation is attributable to the excessive curiosity of the public and the utilitarian of the media to draw more eyes of the citizens rather than the scandal itself. The responsibility of scandals is just to provide information which reveals societal problems. With proper utilization, scandals can be eventually useful.
Based on what I have analyzed, scandals are useful to our society as they can draw more attention on certain pressing problems and propel corresponding resolventresolution. In order to make full use of scandals, the public and the media also should avoid bearing utilitarian purpose.
b1:scandals 会将现实中的问题暴漏出来,而有时reformer不能;
你的例子watergate和Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative (BALC)都不错,符合ets的例子标准;
