In the modern society, media collect news from everywhere. They especially pay attention to the behavior and saying of the public people and the officers. At the same time, people are eager to hear the big news. Scandals are very attractive for their influence to every member of the society. It indeed could make people fixate to some social problem that we cannot realize from the speakers or the reformers. Nevertheless, sometimes the concentration on scandals is not so useful of the society.

On one hand, scandals actually could focus our attention on some problems so that it could be useful to solve some problems. Primarily it is because of the curiosity of the people’s nature. The serious competition and fast living pace in the modern society make people need some exiting things, such as the scandals. For instance, people would like to hear the scandals about the famous actors, singers, or the athletes. The case of football star Simpson caught up almost every American’s eyes. This case did not have any relationship with such many people who stay at the TV set. But people wanted to care this scandal because they were eager to see famous people’s doings and it could be a good topic in their daily life. Such unbeknown news can largely be considered as a sauce in our drab days. At the same time, in the current era, people are inclined to pay attention to the national economy and the people's livelihood. Exposing the scandals in the politics or the academia could increase the public pressure on those problems concerned. Thus the government or other administrators have to take actions to deal with the embarrassing situation. Hence the scandal could sometimes be useful for us.

On the other hand, however, too much concentration on the scandals would confuse the public’s thinking. A mass of negative reports would make people not hold a just and unprejudiced view on the social problems. Such confusion even could disturb the balanced order of the nation or some places. The scandal of the ex-president Bill Clinton is widely known by every American.  During the impeachment of him, on account of the abundant negative reports, the whole society fell in to the distrust of the leader of the nation. And the media excessively focused on this not very important event that they disregarded other more important things in the world. Extended concern about the scandal made people feel boring. Once you open the TV set, every channel was discussing that senseless scandal, you would ask shall we pay more attention to the normal things? The scandal really made a bad effect on the society. Therefore, the scandal is not always useful for us.

To sum up, some times, we may get some useful information from the scandals and it certainly can be helpful for us to figure out the problems under them. However, excessive attention could easily change the view of the society to another extreme. We must admit that the scandals are not what we want to see. A British saying is said that no news, good news. What we have to do is to eliminate the scandals, not to enjoy them.
