In contrast, I will quite agree at the notion that it's small cities , towns and villages that  play the role of cultural tradition preservation in the contemporary world.

First, the contribution of major cities to their nation chiefly lies in the realm of economic realm not the cultural area. As the advent of industrialization , major cities being the revolution frontier, has produced increasing products for their citizen and people of other region and through selling the multitude amount of this merchants , the major cities has been granting their nation the largest source of financial income. Actually stimulating by the unforeseeable profit they can receive, most nations spare no effort to promote the major cities development. What the nation most emphasize is probably to other factors but the economic development of the major cities so that the financial support can invariably strong and most nations quite fascinate about the yearly economic ranking report of the worldwide major cities, being proud of the high ranks they receive in the report . As some citizen maintain cities is not a ideal place for living while a excellent heaven to earn money. This casual comment may vividly betray the chief function and position of major cities to the nation.

If the government regulation is effective, most of them probably will be the elite deserved to be protected. In fact, in the modern society, only some small cities , towns and villages preserve the ancient traditional culture. Take an example of the Chinese Spring Festival celebration. In the past, the most significant scene of the festival celebration is the ignite the firecrackers at the same time---usually at 0 a.m. on the 1st of the lunar calendar. All the household purchase their firework and join in this celebration. Moreover,  spring festival period is a precious get-together time. This cordial celebration tradition has been passed down for nearly 1000 years, which should be certainly be continued and imparted. However, the celebration of the major cities is comparatively  silent and tedious, some citizens  routinely sit in front of the television or monnitor to simply pass this festival and government even strict ban igniting the firework in the city for the sake of disturbing the routine lives. It is not difficult to explain why numerous major cities' residents endeavor to return to their hometown to enjoy the Spring Festival. Therefore, nowadays only small cities, towns, villages have the real function in protect the cultural tradition.

To sum up, the major cities should receive sufficient financial support to thrive and promote the nation's economic, which has not become so of great significance in the past. While as far as the cultural traditional preservation, the small cities, towns and villages should overweigh the major cities, which primarily act as the new cultural tradition cradleland at best.
