The speaker claims that things do not become more comprehensive, but more complex and more mysterious ,as we acquire more knowledge. I think this claim is somewhat reasonable, yet the final conclusion depends on a case-by-case analysis for several reasons.

To begin with, this claim apparently seems true. On one hand, as we understand and learn more about something, we do comprehend more easily and clearly which once looks like so complicated and unexplained. For example, when we start learning a foreign language, at first it seems so difficult and unfamiliar, yet after a period of time we study the new words, recite some classic papers, learn the grammar of this language we may surprise to find that all these words become vivid and meaningful and even we may have the capability to write and communicate with others by using this language. On the other hand, we may find that the complexity is far beyond our first imagination and we also may confront unexpected problems after we have some further studies. For example, though we manage more information about the climate and have more advanced high-tech satellites to support an abundant of useful statistics, on the contrary, we may feel it is more difficult for us to forecast tomorrow’s weather let long to give an accurate weather prediction of one week.

In addition, side-effect can be explain to why things will become confuse and lose varying inversely as we get on more intensively about the problem. In this era when we cheer at the greatest progress of science and technology the potential threaten which progress gives us is also stepping toward us. We are too tired to switch from improving the high-tech skills to preserving environment .This biggest headache might not be simplely concluded as the veil of things which seems so complex and mysterious but perhaps implies that we should acquire more knowledge in order to completely catch on it.

Admittedly, comparing with our ancestor who struggle for existence in animal world and is frightened by common natural phenomenon such as flash, rainbow, and thunder, we may feel prided to say that we can utilize the nature and make it more comfortable for our development, to some extent. As Bacon said “Knowledge is the power”. Modern human has successfully to use this power to create their new world. We use telephone or e-mail to connect with our friends who live a long distant from us; we invite the detector to explore the Universe for discovering other organism; we also utilize solar power to solve energy crisis; all of which are never been thought by our ancestor. However, without probing the perplexing and mysterious area and a particular extent of apprehending the knowledge about science and technology we can not achieve these. Thus, reviewing the progress of human being reveals that a sound grip of knowledge are always companying with the efforts that we put into grasping and acquiring them, though perhaps sometimes we may not fully twig with them.

In sum, it sounds as a paradox while more knowledge we have, more complex and more mysterious things looks like. Nonetheless, on the basis of what I analysis above reflects: perhaps we are trapping on the abyss of the knowledge; we might have to deal with the possible side-effect of the  knowledge; yet perhaps just it leads to the prosperity of human being.
