And politics is a business born not only of idealism but also from pragmatism and practicality, which should be rooted in the public favor and support. For example, when a leader raises the taxation rate in order to lessen the pressure of federal budget deficit, without taking into account the demands and interests of its citizens, may stir angry and dissatisfaction among people, which might lead to end of his political life. Thus, to earn the support of public is the base of every leader's chief goal.

In addition, political policies are often based on the compromise of different interest groups and the dictates of the situation. There are many interest groups in the society, each of which may hold different opinions and demands and interests. What is more, it is usual that these interests may be conflicting with each other. Since the fundamental goal and function of politics is to reconcile the conflicting interests and try best to maximize the overall well-being of the society, an effective political leader should be able to deal with this situation. During the course, the leader may encounter the circumstance that the possible decision are not according with his own principles, however, it is still be necessary for him to compromise to the public demands, which is the basis for politics itself.
