150 Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete.
Nowadays, people are most interested in the traveling affairs. At the same time, such media as TV and Internet provide us with the information about the great places. Will tourism then become obsolete? The speaker thinks so, while I fundamentally disagree with the speaker. The tourism does have its merits and will even improve by such means as TV and Internet.
With the development of such means as televisions and worldwide computer connections, I admit they will impulse the tourism to some extent. One can be familiar with the great places when they turn on the TV or computer to the travel issues. It seems that those who have no time or effort to travel now have a chance to savor the every fragment of human culture and nature. Such TV programs as the discovery on traveling and the national geographic journal all provide the audience with the latest world wide favorite sites. There are also many web sites which offer detailed information about the sites pictures and live videos. They are all appeal to the people.
But it is still presumptuous to claim that tourism will soon become obsolete. In fact, as far as I am concerned, the new means only serve to arose the interest and promote the tourism.
First of all, although the TV and Internet provide the possible details about the places, they can never provide all the things people will experience when traveling. For example, one can touch the stones of the ancient city, can smell the fragrant smell in the primitive forest, and can hear the echo of the canyon during the tourism. But they can not feel any of these feelings on TV or Internet. Moreover, the television cannot provide every detail of the sites. Often such means focus only on the famous places, especially the famous parts of the famous places. But the tourists are not necessarily interested in such parts. If one wants to search the trivial parts of the less famous sites, one can only travel by himself.
Secondly, tourism provides us more than the viewing of famous places. More often, it brings us with the satisfaction and proud in experiencing the travel. For instance, one may feel extraordinary happy and confident after they climb to the zenith of the mountain. It is certain that such feeling have little to do with the views on the mountain, but with the process of the pursuit of the highest point ahead. When one travels to a large city, the major issue in the tourism is shopping in the city. So the process of bargaining and wandering provides them with fully satisfaction when they buy a lot of things. Maybe this kind of happiness originates from their serendipity self-confidence.
Last but not least, when one travels, what he needs is simply to escape from the fast beat of the daily life. One is willing to travel when he or she feels sad and needs such kind of retreat, even for a short period of time. The process of searching the Internet or watching television can not bring such feelings, for they are parts of the common facilities.
But I do not mean that since the tourism can never be obsolete then the TV or Internet tourism will not attract us. In fact, such new means of mass media provides more convenience and will promote the tourism industry as well. The television often focuses on the most attractive parts of the places; they will make the audience have some impulse in further traveling. The Internet provides us with the route and expense planning as well as the images and videos. One can even chat with the people who have already gone there to ask for detailed information about the DIY traveling. So the mass media simply serves to make the tourism more popular.
In sum, although the TV and Internet provides us with information about the great places, they can never replace the tourism due to the lacking in the diversity of the dimensions. But the television serves to make tourism better and more attractive to the tourists and thus promote the tourism industry. |
