“In the age of television , reading books is not as important as it once was . People can learn as much by watching television as by they can by reading books .”


Essay :

Nowadays ,with the advent of television ,people could have more opportunities to collecting more information ,and hence learning well effective knowledge .The speaker hold such viewpoint ,by this superficial success of TV sets ,that reading book is not as important as it once was .I firmly disagree ,since television has some deeper and more basic instinct very different from the book , and therefore reading book impossible to replaced.

It is safe to say that television ,the most pervasive and persuasive of modern technologies ,marked by rapid change and growth ,which is moving into a new era ,an era of extraordinary sophistication and versatility ,which promises to reshape our lives and our world .Television brings people to a new world where may be impart novelty information at same time than printed books .For example ,documentary program such as “National Geographic” describe the climate of somewhere and the behavior of human or animal .Besides ,it is more convenient as well as cheaper to sit comfortably at home .For example ,all you have to do is press a button ,and you can see shows every kind ,the old mysterious country with a splendid culture ,exciting football match ,not to mention the latest political discussions .

However, television, as a high-tech medium for learning, have nothing on reading books .Firstly , both media have various quality in their transmitted process. The crucial character of the TV program is update, that is ,it seems that the information is more immediately transmitted ,the more worthiness it is. Nonetheless, book-friends have its inherently advantages over television ,you can enjoy the most veritably aristocratic society in the world whenever you want it .As William Phelps said ,in his essay Owning Books ,“in a private library ,you can at any moment converse with Socrates or Shakespeare or Carlyle or Dumas or Dickens or Shaw or Barrie or Galsworthy” .Moreover ,browsing through a library or reading printed books at café is a pleasurable journey ,rather than watching TV ,while eating some fried food .

Secondly, the manner of learning of two media is obviously different .Television lean heavily on much more vivid and alluring images, propaganda products or even a particular political viewpoint. The television viewer takes no initiative ,people is completely passive and has everything without any effort on their part .Reading is a thinking process rather than an simply exercise in our eye movements .As for me ,reading may be defined as an individual’s total inter-relationship with symbolic information .Effective reading requires a logical sequence of thinking or thought patterns, and these thought patterns require reading more books to set them into the mind, that is, the more books you read, the more learned you become.

Finally, the contrast between watching TV and reading books is the metal object. Television offers an endless series of badly entertaining programs, even if the poor quality of programs is often criticized. Moreover, people authentically need the food of thoughts, such as the splendid culture and art, and naturally, reading does good to everyone mind. The reading actions walk you, step by step, developing the full man.

In conclusion, no doubt that not a dynamic medium has been formed when reading books, and yet, as read this real friend, we are absorbing morality at every pore. Therefore, a reading action to throw over reality a light that never be might give away abruptly to the television.

1, 摆明自己的观点：坚决反对
2，先让步一下，肯定TV的优势，举国家地理的例子（后来看范文也举了这个例子，不知道是否可以）
3，开始详细阐明自己的观点，第一，传播信息知识的特点不同：电视是以现时为中心的，所传播的信息越具有当下性越就有价值，而文字可以自由自在，徜徉在历史先河中。
4，第二，传播的方式以及由这种方式带来的影响不同：电视直接用图像影响观众，而读书要求一边阅读一边思考，否则不能理解或不能完全理解书中文字的意思。
5，传播的内容不同：电视的大量内容都是以娱乐的方式表现的，这样就造成了浅薄以及庸俗的文化风气，而阅读是给提供精神食品
6, 正因为以上观点，我才固执的认为，不管电视如何发展，看电视终究不能也不应该取代读书。

这是我第一次写，查资料用了大概一天，写得时候也没有限时，写得过程好几次都写不下去了，主要是有些句子不知道用英语怎么表达。希望大家多提意见呀~~~~
