刚收到BU PH.D. financial aid，不知道去不去

I know something about BU, and hope I could help you guys out.
Maybe BU is a bit better than, say OSU or ISU overall (actually, they are in the same level, and each of them has her own famous fields and good placement of course). But here is the thing; BU is the toughest one in her level (like Chicago and Madison in their own levels). BU admits around 50 PhD students each year (usually around 20 for other universities), but only less than 15 can graduate every year. More than 2/3 students would get quit or transfer to their master programs. The competition there is way out of your imagination (after 1st year’s qualifiers, almost 1/3 would just disappear from class). One of my friends was a PhD student there and got quit in his third year… When I talked with my professor about PhD studies, he told me I should also think about my life in the five years, not just the a bit higher rank…

btw, bu给financial aid的人数应该很少的，我想有奖学金的人拿到degree的可能应该很大。楼上两位祝你们早日顺利拿到学位。the average gradation year=6.2

每年招50个夸张了，据我所知，去年只有35个。并且普遍比起中国学生的基础明显还是要强一截，一般被淘汰的很少。我隔壁的一个一年级mm成天看片考试也是全A，另外一个去年入学的北大本科基本不上课也是一样，还有一个3年级的复旦mm更是创了全A的神话。

另外有点想告诉楼主的，等你真正到了美国，才会发现呆在大城市和小地方的生活的不同。作为一个PHD，生活是极度单调无聊的。boston这种地方可以稍微有些乐趣。
最后，楼上那个BU的，是著名的老师八卦之王，你可以从他那打听到任何BU老师的八卦，包括simon。嗯啊,呵呵:loveliness:

both gives a lot of ADs. they'r good if you are not good enough for a phd with funds and have adequate money. there was a discussion in this board about the differences between these two. search it for info.
the only thing for you to choose should be different life styles between city and town. for a master level, it really doesn't matter which school you choose. the possibility to success depends on youself much more than on school.
