Women Really do Prefer Pink

A study has shown that women are more attracted to reddish hues, than to greens, yellows and the universally-loved blues.

hue [hju:]
(literary or technical) a colour; a particular shade of a colour: His face took on an unhealthy whitish hue. Her paintings capture the subtle hues of the countryside in autumn.
(formal) a type of belief or opinion: supporters of every political hue

HW:
What do women want? Well, accordingmarketers’ anything, as long as as(it’s) pink. From baby blankets to cellphones, the first step moving female consumers is to have a pink crupt(wrapped). Well, research published this weekend in Current Biology might validate the practice, although families(feminists) may see red. Researchers from Newcastle University asked more than 200 people to choose their peferred color from a range of red, green to blue, yellow. They found that women, across the broad, strongly preferred the red shoes, while the men not so much. Futher, they gave the subjects the Bem Sex Role Inventory that measures femininity and found that the more feminine you are, the more you prefer the reddish(redish hues). Since the study was across culture(cross-culture), scientists said the preference may a part of our nature. They speculated that in hunter-gather-days women who may have gathered more than hunted held(honed) a skill for spotting red ripe fruit. They also suggest women are more sensitive to blush skin in order to battle(better) read and motional(emotional) status(states). So, the sensitivity to reddishness, they say, stark and makes bland(may explain) the created sheets are(the cliché of) being pretty and pink.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
about The Bem Sex Role Inventory Test:
The Bem Sex Role Inventory was developed in 1971 by Dr. Sandra Lipsitz Bem. It characterizes your personality as masculine, feminine, androgynous, or undifferentiated. The BSRI is based on gender stereotypes, so what it's actually measuring is how well you fit into your traditional sex role. Thus, your score may say as much about how our cultural expectations have changed over the last 35 years as it does about your personality.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They found that women, across the broad, strongly preferred the red shoes, while the men not so much.

what is the meaning of "across the broad", or it is just a dictation mistake.

Like White On Rice?

Rice was red until farmers selected mutated white varieties, for good reasons, 10,000 years ago. Steve Mirsky reports.

White rice is one of the world’s most popular stable(staple) foods. But white rice also shows that humans have been manipulating genes since the start(dawn) of civilization. White rice evolve from wild red rice 2000 years ago. And new study finds that all white rice in the world is derived from two red subspecies that experience almost identical mutations. The study appears in the Journal Public Library of Science Genetics. The mutations shorten a protein that ordinarily would lead to coloring rice. The researchers think the ancient farmers liked the odd white rice and actively bred and spread it, first across theHimalayan region and then across the rest of the world. Was the color or like(lack thereof) that made the grain more attractive? Maybe not. Because white rice varieties cooked faster which requires less fuel. Also, insects and diseases were easier to spot on the lighter rice strains. So next time you bring a fork full of white rice to your mouth, remember the 1000 of acient geneticists to today keep you from seeing red.

I'm not sure about the last sentence.

The 1976 Mars viking landers didn`t find any life on the red planet,but may be they weren`t looking right,because at least one researcher thinks that a 10th of the percent of the martian soil tested by the vikings could actually if had biological origin.The Dutch researcher Jupe Haudcooper present his ideas on Augest 24th at the Meeting of European Planetary Science Congress in Potsdam.One viking test measured  unexplained rises in oxygen and carbon dioxides when it was  incubating some soil samples.Haudcooper conjectures that incredibly dry and cold surface of Mars might be home to living cells.Such cells, however,would need to be filled with mixture of warter and hydrogen peroxide,which could stay liquid in the harsh conditions.And if the viking landers happened to scoop up any of these strange cells,their breakdown products would be in line with the oxygen and carbon dioxide  measured.The biomass would then represent ten of percent of the martian soil by weight which is interestingly comparable to levels found in some Antarctic permafrost.

Almost perfect!

The correct sentence should be “The researchers announced their “groundsbreaking” findings…”

Steve was playing on the words “grounds” and “groundbreaking” because he was talking about a “new” finding regarding coffee “grounds” in this presentation. Similarly, in the last sentence he substituted the word “phenylindane” into the word “decaffeinated”, coining a word for a drink whose bitter compounds (phenylindanes) have been removed.

Clues To Longshot Life On Mars

A reinterpretation of old Mars lander data leads a researcher to conclude that the tests actually may have found life signs. Steve Mirsky reports.

The 1976 Mars Viking landers didn’t find any life on the red planet, but maybe they were not looking right. Because at least one researcher thinks that a tenth of a percent of the Martian soil tested by the Vikings could actually have biological organs(origin). The Dutch researcher Joop Houtkooper presented his idea on August 24th at the meeting of the European Planetary Science Congress in Potsdam. One Viking test measured unexplained rises in oxygen and carbon dioxide when it was incubating in some soil samples. Houtkooper conjectures that the incredibly draw(dry) in(and) cold surface of Mars might be home to live in(living) cells. Such cells, however, would need to be filled with mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide which could stay liquid in the harsh conditions. And if the Viking landers happened to scoop up any of these strange cells, their breakdown products would be in line with the oxygen and carbon dioxide measured. The biomass will(would) then represent a tenth of percent of the Martian soil by weight, which is interestingly comparable to levers found in some Antarctic permafrost.

Bitterer, more bitter are both correct. Likewise, bitterest, most bitter.

what is the mean of "a tenth of a percent of" ?(why not ten percent?)

and

(when it was incubating some soil samples.)
what is the mean of "incubating " here?
