1. whether the destiny of society is determined by how children are socialized?
   1) Socializaiton, especially of children, plays an significant role in affecting
what the society will be like.  Example: Spartan,

   2) Other factors can determine the destiny of society

   3) Socialization doesn't stop when childhood stops, it continues in adulthood: mass media, working place, peer groups2.

2. whether we have learned how to socialize our children?

   1) our society is progressing: we're success in raising our childrens

    Socialization, generally defined as the process of learning one's culture and how to live within it
through agents such as family, schools, peer groups, plays an essential role in the shaping of the society.
Socializing indicates teaching a person what and how to behave in certain situation, what is and is not
expected in our society through norms and values. Its importance of cultivating one society, especially
the socialization of young children,  has long been recoganized even in the ancient Greek polis Sparta
established around 500 BC.  Spartan citizen boys left home for military boarding school at the age of
seven and were required to serve in the army until the age of thirty. Within the military school,
young children are offered military training including hunting and surviving in the wild.
Such a socialization of young Spartan boys provided Sparta a huge troops of combat elites, who protected their homeland and people, invaded other polis including Athen, extended the territory of their polis steadily etc. As a result, Sparta remained the most powerful polis in ancient Greek and established the
reputation of its bravery force.   

    Though the Sparta society achieved its power and dominance via such a seemingly-impossible
socolization of young child, it is a mere polis of Greek. In addition many people, including me, believe
that a military country is not what we called a better society by modern standard. In a modern country,
its well-being may be defined by flourishing of the society, better living conditions, longer life,
healthier life, more personal freedom and etc. It is arbitary and hasty to claim that the socialization determines the destiny of society.

    First, as the increasing interactions between countries, a local crisis can incur damage in other
counties, even become a global disaster. For a recent example, a global economic crisis swept all over
the world, which originated in the U.S..  Since nationas are knitted into a whole while
the international connection becomes tighter and tighter, such global crisis are becoming more likely.
Another example is regional conflicts may turn out to be a worldwide war, just like two World War. Facing such shapened and intensified fluctuation, socialization of young children plays only one of the roles,
including, to mention a few, economic power,  international enviroment, political strategy, etc.  
These factors usually act intertwinedly and the combined effect is so great that a Spartan can never understand and experience.

   Second, socialization doesn't stop when childhood ended, but goes along its path into adulthood.
As a product of modern society, mass media plays an important role in socialize adults and
is becoming more and more influential. Newspaper, television, broadcasting, Internet
merge themselves with our daily life, people, especially adults, are inevitably exposed to such media.
These media socializes people by presenting pictures of life where behaviors which will be punished or rewarded according to current value, this can be interpreted as another way of socialization and tells
people how to play their role right in society. Thus individuals are also socialized even when they grow up. In addtion, adult usually have more significant and direct impact on deciding where and how our society goes. Socialization of adult through mass media thus is powerful in determining the destiny of society.
As I believe that the socialization of children is not the only factor that determine the destiny of our society, we're doing a good job on how to socialize the younger generation. This can be reflected by the well-being of the world today. First, people today have more human rights, for example, the inequality of gender is being eliminated all over the world. In the past, female were treated as inferior to male and possess very few rights such as the right of recieving education, the right of voting, etc.. In contrast, male nowaday are showing more respect to women in public, wives have more right in the families too, women in U.s. not only allowed to vote in election but to be president candidate. We have to admit that women right cann't be achieved in a society where citizen are brought up in an environment where girl have no right to go to school and women suffer violence in the family.

    Second, people today are more willing to help others, they're civilized to respect other citizen, to share
their knowledge and wealth, to be more involved in almost every big events happen in the world, making this society a better place to live in. Bill Gates, known for his wealthy and wisedom, also famous for his
generosity, he and his wife started up a foundation in 2000 to support philanthropic initiatives in the area
of health and education. During the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, thousands of volunteers undertook important tasks on and beyond the gaming court. In short, civils on the earth currently are socialized in such a way that they are making this planet a more pleasing place.

  In conclusion, the destiny of our society is determined by a wider range of factors but not only how children are socialized, though it plays a role in the well-being of current world, from which I believe that the basic goals of socialization of citizen are achieved.
