61 the following appeared in a report by the School District of Eyleria.
"nationally, the everage ratio of computers to students in kindergarten through grade 12(K-12) is 1:5. Educators indicate that this is very good ratio. This means that across the country, all students have access to and can use computers daily in their classrooms. In Eyleria's K-12 shools, the ratio of computers to students is 1:7. This number is sufficient to ensure that all of Eyleria's students, by the time they graduate from high school, will be fully porficient in the use of computer technology. Thus, there is no reason to spend any of the schools ' budget on computers or other technology in the next few years."

The argumentasserts that the school should cut the budget on computers or other technologyin the next few years. To support the recommendation the arguer cites twostudies, a nation one and a school one, which seem reliable. However, not onlythe way of the survey, but also the assumption of the arguer needsreconsideration.

The most majorproblem of the argument is that the nationally study cited by the author is notsufficient, for the way to conduct the survey not provided. Without the detailsone can assume that in the survey some students in one area have computer eachor some students have more than one computer while others have no computer. What’smore, the sample of the survey should have been classified as the range of theage is so wide from kindergarten to K-12, so as to the survey in the districtschool. On the other hand, if the national survey is a poll through theinternet, the reliability of the survey will be undermined dramatically, sincethe students who have computers are more accessible to the internet. Only providingthe way of conducting the survey, can the argument rule out these possibilitiesthat render it to be poorly substantiated.

Secondly, eventhough the data of the study is reasonable, it fails to indicate that studentscan use computer everyday, let alone using them in their classrooms. It islikely that the younger the children are, the less the parents permit them touse the computers. Also, in most classes, to catch the attention of thechildren, computers are forbidden. If it is the case, the assumption that thestudents who have computers can use them everyday in class is ungrounded.

Last but notleast, the arguer unfairly assumes that all the students having computers havethe competence to use computers as the goal of the lesson expectation. However,as the children have less control of themselves and the attracting E-gamesthrive, the students may be addicted to the games rather than the ability tooperate the computers. Thus to support the assumption a study, for what thestudents use computers, should be added.

To sum up, sincethe study is unreliable and the assumption is poorly supported, the conclusionto cut the budget for the computers or other technology is groundless. In orderto amend the reasoning, more details of the surveys should be provided. Furthermore, in how many schools the computer are available and what the students dowith the computer are both need further study.
