ISSUE 241——"There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."
I agree with the speaker that we should resist the unjust laws sometimes, for the reason that the unjust laws are harmful to people’s lives. Otherwise, under certain circumstances, we should not disobey the unjust law while we are suffer from them, because it has no effect on the accident and even disturbs our lives.
I insist that we obey the just laws for it is the basis of social development and also it bring a great benefits to our lives such as punishing the criminal and praise the good people. Yet when we are faced with the unjust law, in some case disobedience of law is also a virtue. During the Second World War, one of the German laws is to offend other countries. German soldiers should make a choice between the invasions and resist the unjust law, at that time; many people disobey the German law and make a contribution to the world peace. Confronted with unjust laws, sometimes people’s resistance can be acceptable.
Another example to support the view that we should disobey the unjust law is the liberty of slivery. As we all know, during the Independent War, slavery was under the umbrella of American constitution, so slavers were suffering from darkness. But some people chose to resist the law and escape from south to north, for the north abolished the slavery. Silvery is an unjust law, it damages the black people and society. Through resisting the law, black people get their liberty and they can live in their own life, even they are not under the control of others. Without disobeying the law, slavers are not free, even worse, they would live a painful life. It is necessary for people to be against the unjust laws on some conditions
However; we can not always take actions by disobeying or resisting. One reason is that we can definite what the unjust law is. In addition, disobeying the unjust law also can interfere our lives, even bring troubles to us. If all of us are against the unjust law, it will disturb others and the order of society. On the other hand we can seek for other solutions on the unjust laws. For example, before the civil war, the slavery were under protection of law, but law was amended through the Amendment and people get their right. We can get help from Mass media, Mass media can public the unjust laws and appeal to amending them, what’s more, people can discuss the unjust law through Internet in that Internet has a great power on transforming the information and attract the Government’s attention. Totally, individual’s power is limited, so we can seek help via public.
In sum, it is our ability to obey the just law, but when the unjust laws disturb our lives or damage the social orders, we can solve the problems by resistance or disobedience; besides, we can find a better solution such as public and government instead of resistance. |
