I agree with the statement that both parents and communities must be involved in the local schools, for they by nature play a vital part in education. However, it is dangerous to put this assertion into extremes. On balance, I contend that parents, communities and professional educators are equally important to guarantee the success of education.

To begin with, parents and communities have their indispensable merits when it comes to education. For one thing, no one in the world than the parents is more motivated and concerned with the education of their own children. Intrinsically, the paramount love and care for their own children drive them to devote prodigious amount time and energy on their kids' education. For another, through their daily contact with the children they know the needs and characteristics of them. Also, the children are generally more willing to share their ideas and problems with their parents. That makes it possible for the parents and communities to design a pedagogic teaching method and the learning pace particularly suited for their own children.   All of these require the parents and communities to play an active role in education.

Nevertheless, the parents and communities should not dominate the process of education, for the Achilles’ heel of the parents-conducting education makes it incompetent in some critical aspects. First, understandably, parents usually fail to regard their children objectively , in other words, they tend to extravagate their children's merit and to ignore their shortcomings. A boy who showed a little interest in music may be treated as another Mozart by his father, and he may therefore forced to be trained as a talented  musician,  even if he is actually not so gifted and his interests may shift soon. Yet, a professional educator may be able to discriminate real talent and temporary interest, and make decision free of the influence of the parent love. This example aptly illustrates that how parents may impede effective education.   

In addition, under some circumstances, the parents may be so arrogant that they may make the wrong decision for their kids. Recognized or not, although the majority of contemporary parents have gone through form education themselves, unarguably, unlike professional educators, most of them have little knowledge about pedagogy. As is known to all, pedagogy, which is accumulated by numerous researches and studies, has been proved to be scientific and effective for most students.  Although some parents claim that their ways of teaching are superior to the common teaching methods, experience informs us that such claims are more often proved to be nothing more than arrogant illusion.  Therefore, professional educators have to be involved in the process of education.

In sum, education, an extremely important and complex task, can hardly be accomplished solely by either parents and communities or professional educators. Instead, both should be involved for the sake of successful education.
