Issue 208: the way people look, dress, and fact reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people.

Values, frequently we treat it as a judge of dealing with the matter right or wrong, estimating, and the choice to choose the standard. People always said that Gentleman has been for the selective, and through one person’s appearance and behavior, we could easily find his minds, realizing what a kind of person he is; through people in one country, we could easily understand the cultures the spiritual civilization.

Whether a man has been a good education and whether he has a profound knowledge, could show from his style of conversation; his style shows his character that determines what will be his appreciation; and his interest is expressed most obviously by the appearance of his dress, or the style. Usually we call this Internal determines external and external responses to internal. People‘s grooming, dress and actions that we considered as external follow the attitudes and interests that we considered as internal factors. For instance, university professors who are wearing inexpensive clothes and holding glasses for majority always influence us with a precious and sagacious mind, as well as persons who focus on their research and teaching seriously. A rock singer dresses fashionable and modern that suits for his state appears to the much confident attitude and bravely chase for freedom.

Extend to a country, we assess the citizens’ overall behaviors, including manners, looks, and expression. Are the people appropriately dressed for their social status and their ages? Do they offer their seats for olds and pregnant women or some other persons who require more when taking bus? Have the people ever been do some uncivilized action such as spitting or throwing garbage anywhere? Do they often go to libraries or museums when they are on holidays? They document observations and examples of behaviors to the social culture, value and civilization. In sociology, value theory is concerned with personal values which are popularly held by a community, and how those values might change under particular conditions. My professor told me when reaching to a strange country, the short cut to judge the civilization is observing the public washing hand room. Behaviors and details in toilet reflect the society’s value enough. And observations are made to explain obviously why human beings prefer or choose some things over others, how personal behavior may be guided or fail to be guided by certain values and judgments, and how values emerge at different stages of human development.

To sum up, the ways of people look, dress, and act respond to their attitudes and interests that rely on the society’s brief and value.
