Should a nation require all its students to study the same national curriculum before they enter college rather than allow local schools determine their own courses, just like the speaker said? It depends on the student’s studying experience. The compulsory education and the college one, both of which are very important for a student's studying experience.
For the compulsory education, which is the fundamental for a student’s education. In this period, students accumulate some basic knowledge for their further education, learn some skills for society living, and form characters such as corporation, compete, brave, diligence and so forth. No doubt, therefore, the centralized curriculum is meaningful and necessary. Granted me that the nation system of education is just like the captor, who directs his soilders to the destination more quickly, and more security, because these national curricula are proved to be scientific and useful through specialists and educators' sophisticated experiences and experiments. So it can become a completed education system which can help management and improve the whole education quality. Further, the national courses can form the national value among students that can easily help make children growing up respects and contribute to their country. Moreover, by requiring all its students to study the same national curriculum, this will be convenient for all teachers and educators. They can save the time which it must be cost if each local teachers have to study which courses should be determined but it already has been proved by a group of authorized educators. Most of all, the level of different parts of teachers are vary. This will be unjustifiable for some local students who are in the middle of forming their characters but are misdirected by their teachers' mistakes.
Surely, in different parts of the nation, courses with some subtle differences are acceptable and supportable. For students, they have the rights to choose some courses what they interests which will be very important for their self-development, and they should understand the culture and tradition of their hometown that can help students acquire the knowledge more effectively. It is self-evident that the nation allows schools in different parts to determine the academic courses rightly meet the need. For instance, in universities we can see some realm is specially emphasized because some famous people who studied in this university, this can inspire the following students and influence this realm position continued.Local education is the same, local educators can set some special courses to maintain their superiority in some realm according local influential people and instinctive culture. Not only will this benefit each state but also benefit students, in that it can growing students sense of honor and self-esteem to study effectively. One thing we must consider, however, is that local schools are financed by the local government’s support and the tax of local people. Therefore, the stable and quality of school depends on the local government, sometimes the local school is considered as an instrument for politicians for some intentions, that to some extent hampers the action of course determined by educators. Happily, the data from UN demonstrates that the investment on local education from the nation is gradually increasing, even overweigh from the local governments.
To sum up, a nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum accompanying with some special courses which local schools offer, by this we can achieve the fundamental purpose of education.
