According to this statement, author thinks that artists give something of lasting value to society in art while critics do nothing about it. However, in my opinion, although we should not ignore the contribution which critics make to the art, the contribution seems quite piddling when contracted with the work of artists.

What the critic? Critics are the people who give their comment to works of art. Unfortunately, most of the critics are becoming the tool to propagandize serving for some company nowadays. For example, when a big film will be on screen in a short time, we can see there are so many comments about this film in almost every newspaper. The content of these comments is also variety. A part of critics think that it is the greatest one of a century while others think it is just like bullshit. Some comments may even have no relationship with content just focusing on personal affair of actors. But the function of all these comments is same. That is to draw people’s eyes on this film. When people feel curious about this film by these comments and buy the tickets to go into cinema to watch the film, the task of critics is finished. While people have watched the film and feel it is not like what comment says, no one care about this.

Additionally, because of so many critics existing, just through the comments we have no idea whether the work of art is good or not. Sometimes we even get puzzled by them. As the following says, when we watch the film which is commented by a large number of critics we may feel disappointed after watching. On the other hand, while we watch a small film which is not noticed by critics, sometimes we feel surprised as it is actually a good work. Why this always happen? The reason is that in today’s society the drive for critics to make comment is the economical profit. Critics are unlikely to make pertinent comment on the works of art which are really worthy. If so, how can we make a judgment on art works through comments while the comment itself is not honesty?

On the other hand, we still notice that critics make the contribution more or less to the art. With the comment, we can understand the mean of the painting better. With the comment, we can know the main content of the book before we can buy it. With the comment, we can master the background of the music when we listen to it. Good comments are just like the tool to help us enjoy the work of art more thoroughly.

In sum, although we should admit that critics make some contribution to the art, but in today’s commercial society, whether critics can be just or not is still a problem. It is hard to say that to the art it is beneficial or harmful that so many critics exist. Contradicted with the critics, the contribution of the artist making is the core of art with no doubt.
