2007年4月21日 Movies and televisions have more positive or more negative effects on young people's behaviors.
Since televisions and movies came into being as a new media, the discussion towards them has never been stopped. Some may argue that televisions and movies have colored the life for children in their childhood, making them more extroversive and straightforward. However, I hold the standpoint that it's more negative for young people to have movies and televisions.
Televisions and movies conveyed so much negative images to young people that theyre more likely to have a trend of violence. For example, 1 month ago there was a shocking news reported in a newspaper, saying that a middle school boy killed a girl he "loved" and dissected her body in order not to be discovered. What caused more anxiety to adults is that he "learned" this action from television series. The issue is not the only one, recent decades, we've witnessed so much young people injured someone having nothing to do with them, not to mention a growing number of shooting incidents happened in primary school. Explicitly, TVs and movies lead young people to express themselves in a distorted way, which I interpret as abnormal extroversion.
Besides, these two media, especially televisions, impress young people a wrong altitude towards consumer goods. By broadcasting advertisements all over the world, the businessmen make children have a positive impression about unhealthy food like KFC and McDonalds. Without a complete capability of judgment(“判断力”找不到更妥的词), young people have a huge chance preferring eating junk food rather than vegetables. Consequently, we've seen more and more "little big guys" along the road. Some regions or countries have forbidden the ads of McDonalds in children's channel, the famous broadcast company BBC is the pioneer of them.
Finally, as a professor of mine said in the communication curriculum, television and movies have cultivated a generation who are good at innovation and fast thinking other than logical sense and practice. Although the former two, as the positive effect of these two media, benefit a lot when dealing with problems, logical sense and practice experience are the two more basic columns for accomplishing any subject, otherwise the whole system is just a castle in the air. That makes me believe that their negative effects are more serious than the positive ones.
Despite the advantages the televisions and movies could bring about, I tend to think that the weaknesses of the two media's influences towards young people's behaviors are more sever based on what I said above.
