The ever-accelerating updating of science and technology brings about a multitude of changes to our daily lives. The computer, one of the most fascinating inventions in the twentieth century, is playing an increasingly signifiacant role. Yet at the meantime, controversial debate has arisen as to whether the mordern technology will ever replace the book. People have different attitudes towards this issue. Some hold the contention that the printed information will go out of existence as a consequence. However, I would not hesitate to side with this point of view.
First thing first, reading in the form of a book or newspaper is a unique experience, which offers the reader a special kind of enjoyment.
The touch on a thick volume gives one inexpressible pleasure and fun.
How delightful and cozy it is to read a book in an armchair in a fine day! In addition, you will not get bored to read a good book twice or even three times, but is it a pleasure to read the same book on the Internet for many times? What about reading a five-million-word novel? Would you choose to read it online or traditional book? Speaking for mayself, I would definitely choose the latter one.
In the second place, when we are reading online, we cannot take notes in the margins between the lines. What we can do are gazing at the cold flickering screen and using the mouse or clicking the keyborad. As a result, online reading becomes a considerably long, tiresome and uncomfortable experience. Moreover, the process is detrimental for our eyesight and the effect of radiation might also do harm to our physical health.
Last but not the least, the Internet has not yet gained as wild applications as we expect. There are still some technical limitations. For example, the children in the Western part of my country live in great destitution. It is already extremely difficult for them to get normal education. Then how is it possible for them to own a computer and have the access to the Internet?
In conclusion, printed books are a good form conveying information. In my opinion, it will not get crushed out of exsitence for the next 20 years.
