Dose nonmianstream areas play a vital role in society, because it can satisfy huamn needs which mainstream science cannot provide? I concede that nonmainstream areas, such as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal pursuits can satisfy certain basic human needs. However, in my view, once this is abused, the potential harm they can inflict on their participants and on society far outweighs their psychological benefits.

Admittedly, some nonmainstream areas indeed respond to certain human needs, such as carrying people’s wish of leading a safe and happy life with the people they loved, which mainstream science cannot. Before my brother get married, my parents chose the date for their marriage according to a fortune-telling book, hoping that their marriage can be happy and last long. This is very popular in China, no matter it is a wedding or a funeral. In some areas, the day before a person go to somewhere for a business or whatever, or a police go to execute a dangerous mission, he or she or their family will pray to a god in China called "Guan Yu" which was once a famous general in history for their safety and security. In addition, during the chinese spring festival day, some of us also pray the god, and wish the next year will be a better year. These activities all carry human's best wish for their better future or the happiness of their family. Though the results may not be what they are expected, these can lighten or even eliminate the fear of the uncertain of their future, and strengthen their pursuit for a more wonderful future. With the hope of a better tomorrow, people are peaceful and satisfied. Though it does not do harm to the participants and the society, it at least show that many people believe the nonmainstream area and use it to satisfy their needs.

However, once some people make use of it, then the result will be will very dangerous to our society. Someone pretends a fortuneteller to cheat your money, by telling you that he or she would bring you fortune and help you eliminate the disaster, which will come soon, if you gave him money or whatever which is valuable. In fact, many people is deceiving and many people is deceived from past to now days, and it can hardly disappear until nobody believe the nonmainstream areas. Even worse, besides cheating money, it even can deprive people's lives. I still remember a news that a illegal organization which lead more than 100 people to suicide, by inoculating them with the idea that the god is waiting for them, and the earth will be destroyed because of a special movement of the planets and whatever ridiculous reasons, and most of the victims are women and children who have received little education.

Though mainstream science cannot satisfy some needs of our human beings, it can provide us to have a clear understand of the world around us. In the most cases, the cheat is happening in the remote or undeveloped areas, and the victims are mostly children, women, and elders. The reason why they can be deceived is that they are lack of education of the knowledge of the mainstream science, so the deceiver can succeed. They lack the ability to judge what is true and false, good and bad, wrong and right. If the women and children have got a little awareness of the movement of the planets, then the tragedy would not happen. I still remember, when I was young, a lunar eclipse happened, my grandmother told me that is because a dog in the heaven is eating the moon. When I went to school, I knew the real reason and can explain it to my grandmother. It is science that explains the things and phenomena, tell us truth and the reason. If one is educated, then he will use what he or she learned to find the answers for more phenomena, which cannot be explained today.

In conclusion, the nonmainstream can satisfy certain human needs as psychological solace, but, once it is be made use of ,it will do great harm to both the participants and our society. To avoid it, we should work more to strengthen the education of science.

In conclusion, the nonmainstream can satisfy certain human needs as psychological solace, but, once it is be made use of ,it will do great harm to both the participants and our society. To avoid it, we should work more to strengthen the education of science.结尾部分，其实后半部分个人都觉得有些牵强，作者是不是对题目的理解还是有些问题
