Are scandals useful in many areas, for it can draw the attention of the public on problems, which no speak or reformer ever could? I concede that scandals can attract the public to pay attention to them. However, scandals are helpless to solve the problem essentially and may cause some bad effects on individuals and the society.

On one hand, as the public are interested in scandals, and just limited to the surface. When a group of people talked about Clinton’s sex scandal, they would say he is wrong in dealing with his personal problems. But the deeper area, such as the power a president should control and the moral control a politics should hold is ignored. After all, the publics are just interested in the surface and the simple area of a scandal, while the depth is really hard to be discussed and considered. Hence, the influence of the scandal is limited.

Once there was a famous governor in China who accepted bribe with his lover to buy big and expensive houses abroad. This was so widely spreaded that almost everybody knew it. But the news was all what he has done together with his lover, and it was wrong to do that, and so on. There are little concern about what should do to reduce or even eliminate the bribe, such as do more about the political system and building a more complete law system. The result of this case was just that the governor was sentenced to death and his lover was published by the law and they are spited on and cursed by the public. Was there more has be done? No. Later, more and more governors go to the jail due to their bribes, and there is less and less attention people pay to. So scandals do not work to deal with the complicated and severe problems, although it indeed makes the public focus on them.

On the other hand, scandals may have serious effect on the individuals and our society. The youths who are not mature jet surely know the scandals. What it may take to them? They love famous films and singer stars, and believe that NO MATTER WHAT they did is right or wrong, they are cool. Because of this, they mostly will imitate them. Once there were a famous singer star who had a lot of fans, and mostly of them are young boys and girls. One day he was found to have drugs and one of his fans did so too. The reason why the fan imitates the star is just because he think that what his favorite star have done was cool, without realizing how bad it was. It would be late before he knew. Regardless of its bad effects on the society, the famous star was such a bad example for their fans that really do harm to them.

In sum, though scandals can draw the attention of the public, they are not useful in dealing with the problem and sometimes it will have bad effect on individuals and our society.
