What is greatness? Actually, it is always a conception that evokes different points and definitions.[这句个人感觉不太清晰:In fact, different people hold different embodiment of this concept.] However, the long history of human beings[略显拖缀the human history] has set some standards for us to judge whether an individual is great, less great or average, even awful. Yet it brings along another question, is it the people who live after the individuals or the contemporaries that have the authority to decide whether one person is great or not as well as how great he is compared with others?
As far as I am concerned, we should not easily choose to support either side,[;请lz注意断句] instead, only by listening to the opinions of both sides can we have a more clear and objective picture of the issue.[这样子的开头我还得再想想,觉得不相关的东东有点多,略显拖缀]
Admittedly, the comments of the descendents of the individuals are very significant for us to decide if we can give the title "great" to a person. Firstly, without subjective or personal involvement into the times when a certain individual really lives at, the descendants can make a more impassioned judgment on the individual. Secondly, there will be a collective and complete set of documents for the descendents to look into what is the achievement and contribution of the individuals, with which we can find out more truth rather than some unwarranted and emotional inclinations. For instance, in China, Mao Zedong was worshipped even as a living god during his government. Millions of people will strive to go to the Tian'en Men square by all means in order to watch his face and gesture and listen to his speech from different places in China.[这句有点乱,试试:Millions of people would attempt to gather at the Tian'en Men Square from all corners of China by all means, just to have a look at his face and gesture and to listen to his speech.] Due to the revolutionary passion that all the Chinese will possess[possessed] at that time, it is almost impossible that there would be any negative reports and comments on Mao. Nevertheless, after his passing away, Chinese start to reconsider their great leader, with a relatively free atmosphere and more access to the real history, especially some [internal]biography and historical documents left, fewer people will have the same mania for Mao as that [they did] in the past in today's China. In sum, this example best implies that contemporaries' judgment is sometimes misled and it is better to leave it to the descendents under these circumstances.
Nevertheless, even if contemporaries' realization can be unjustified, their ideas are still very significant for us to appraise certain individuals' greatness. Primarily, their points will be relatively more "first-handed", which rule out the possibilities of subjective and intentional misinterpretation of the descendents. [这句没看懂……]Furthermore, descendents prefer the literal details as well as some video and audio documents that can help them to judge a person, instead, based on the different backgrounds, the contemporaries can have more chances to judge a person by the direct image even the communication with the individuals on person. Therefore, the contemporaries' statements can enjoy some particular but maybe more sensitive methods like the psychological and personal elements that will open new windows for us to really understand the individuals. For instance, Bill Clinton, as the former president of US, may be remembered for his contribution to the American economy at his presidency in the future, what's more, people may give him more praises because he did actually an excellent job as a president. However, this is not the whole case. His sexual mistakes during his presidency were also salient several years ago, which have many opportunities to be forgot if he passed away after many years. Yet this possible trend can not be the who reason for us to measure his greatness, the Lewinsky case has decided that people have realized that their president is to some extent as normal as they are, which means he still has weakness and problems that may look bad. In short, the contemporaries' experience is indispensable for a profound and complete judgment on a historical figure, without which we may only have noticed a lateral truth about the individuals as well as some points that may be far from the real facts.[这段分析比较透彻,但是鬼子们会喜欢这个话题么?是不是换个其它国家的同类话题更好些呢?]
After comparing the two sides, we may discover that what really influence our comments on the individuals is not just the problems that we should believe in the descendents or the contemporaries, the key factor is if we could try our best to explore the truth behind all kinds of misleading or superficial elements. Now, we have the technical convenience and several accessible resources for us to know a person.. For that reason, we have already obtained the possibilities to transcend both the limitations of the two sides above, moreover, we also enjoy a more free space for diversified ideas and multiple expressions. Therefore, only arguing that which side would be more helpful even simply deciding to vote for one point and giving up the other one will be almost meaningless because it is has no help for us to explore the history. Further, the hasty and unscientific establishment of a paradox itself is a serious mistake in this case. [这段没有结尾句……]
In general, I can not agree with the point that only by the statements of the people living after the individuals except the ideas of the contemporaries can we measure the greatness of the individuals. There should be a more objective, rational and extensive vision.
大概是个人水平太低了,好几处没有看懂……
觉得字数不少了,但是结构不是很清晰……说的不对的话,请指教!
个人意见:是不是先减少字数,把握清楚文章脉络吧。:) |
