呵呵,写了篇ARGEMENT2 请各位朋友帮忙改改,留链必回哈
TOPIC: ARGUMENT2 - The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.
"Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community's yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting."
WORDS: 631 TIME: 0:33:28 DATE: 2006-3-11
The author in this letter simply contribute the causes of the increase of average property values in Brookville to the set of restrictions on the landscaping and housepainting without any affirmative evidence, further, he went on to argue that the success in Brookville can also occur in Deerhaven if the same restrictions are applied. However, having ignored other possible causes of the increase average property and fallaciously apply the case to another without any limit, the letter is of no meaningful application.
To trace the cause of the tripled average property in Brookville, the author only has narrow focus which prevents a sound observation and insightful analysis. Even when the set of restriction do have a causal relationship with the increase, there may be several causes that may result in the increment of the average property value in certain area on the basis of our common sense and experience. For instance, when the average incomes of the people in that area have grown in proportion with the prosperity of that area at that time, people there therefore have the spare money to pursuit new house. Come with this tendency is the potentially increase of the property value stimulated by unbalanced supply and demand of land property. Another possible cause may due to the augment of the migrated population in that area, for whom the living place is in high priority, in this sense, by adding new demand for the land property, the rising population urge in the increase of the property value. In the face of these several underlying causes, the author merely focus on the set of restrictions put on landscaping and housepainting regardless of any other, the fallacy is what the statement is boomed to be.
When the set of restrictions is functional and is the solo cause of the increase of the property value, there is no flaw to appreciate this strategy highly. However, the author went on wrongly to apply this method to another area, Deerhaven, for future rise of the property value on the following respects.
The most obvious false is dismissing the time between that of the strategy when it works in Brookville and of its application in Deerhaven. Clearly is the author had put to begin with the letter, how can he presumptuously ignore the lag of time? The statement of the sound application of the strategy that once worked into current case will lose its stand easily when defeated by the term “several years”. In today’s highly ever-changing society, “several years” means too much to assume any reliance. Even things can be altered significantly only in a minute, like the prices of stocks, the strategy working several years before should be examined when applied now.
Given the method to foster the property value is still functional now, it is not necessarily mean the sound application to a different area. What about if these two areas are in distinct conditions? The people in Deerhaven may have different taste for the landscaping and housepainting, in this case, any limit that hamper the freedom of handling these things on one’s own will result in a counterproductive end. To assure the strategy will has a promising application in Deerhaven, one should need more information about the similarities and differences between two area. Further, the insightful analysis that which are the factors that will enhance the application and the ones that give the need to do some modification on the strategy will help build a wholesome view.
In sum, the statement of the author has some fundamental flaws which should be checked and need the researches for further corresponding information and deeper insight. To draw any reliable conclusion about the right usage of the set of restrictions in Deerhaven, one has to go far more than the author. |
