166.People recognize a difference between children and adults. What events (experiences or ceremonies) make a person an adult? Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer  
    Everyone experiences a period of growing up from a naïve child to a mature adult, when he or she gradually learns how to ponder deeply and behave neatly. The distinction between a child and an adult, I think, may be the way one views himself and the outside world. In terms of events that mark the transformation from a child to an adult, I would like to mention three points as follows.
    For most people, the first step into adults may be the entrance to colleges. Once we attend colleges, it means that we will live far away from our homes and, at the same time, enter a new life which demands our abilities to overcome difficulties. Basically, we have to wash clothes, go shopping ourselves and schedule our own time, whereas all of these may not have been done before. Further more, as a member of a group, a class for example, we need to communicate with others to share ideas. In a word, a campus life helps us become an adult physically and mentally.
    Graduation from colleges is another point that turns a young man into an adult. Many colleges will hold a ceremony to confer degrees to us meaning that we have accomplished a stage of life, thus encouraging us to make great strides in our later lives. What’s more, we become mature through the processes of seeking jobs and beginning our careers, which may present us a genuine appearance of the society and prepare ourselves well to adjust to it in good manners related to adults.
    The last, also the most important event is marriage which symbolizes our eventual mature. We organize our own homes by marring, and then will make every effort to maintain it through taking more responsibilities including supporting ourselves and our parents as well as raising children, as our parents have done when we are teenagers.
    Above all, children grow up through a series of steps. Every step teaches a child how to behave as an adult. However, events mentioned above are just symbols that signify the turning points. Real growth derives from a variety of experiences in the course of life.

5.A company has announced that it wishes to build a factory near your community. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this new influence on your community. Do you support or oppose the factory? Explain your position.
    Recently, the announcement of building a large factory near my community by a company has aroused wide debates. Will the new factory have influences on my community? Definitely it will. However, there exist both advantages and disadvantages to introducing the new factory. As far as I am concerned, I believe that the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages.
    First of all, as many residents may suppose, some minor disadvantages to building a new factory around here include both the threat of pollution and the disturbance of noises. For instance, the factory may discharge waste water to the river nearby, which may in turn affect our water supplying system because of the harmful or toxic chemicals contained in it. Another drawback to setting up a factory involves the possibility that the noises made by the running machines may disturb the surrounding residents who are sleeping or reading in their houses, especially the sleeping babies.
    Even though there may be one or two disadvantages to constructing a factory near my community, I insist that its advantages are more significant. Establishing a new factory will demand a lot of workforces, therefore, many people living in the community can have the opportunities to seek job openings in the factory. The short distance between workplace and home alone will benefit them a lot. They needn’t to squeeze in the rush hour on the way home or to workplace. Also, it enables them to accompany their family for a much longer time. On the other hand, after a new factory set up, a few economy activities may emerge subsequently. For example, new restaurants or shopping markets may be opened and, new traffic tracks may be constructed too. Undoubtedly, all of these changes can bring us a lot of conveniences. After all, there are more choices available to us.
    Although there exist a couple of disadvantages to building a new factory near my community, the negative effects can be diminished by setting rules to constrain the emissions of pollutants and undesirable noises. Accordingly, I feel that the advantages are more obvious. By establishing a new factory here, residents will find more conveniences both in working conditions and their lives.
