With the rising economy and developing living standard, more and more of us consider freedom in every aspect of life of top importance nowadays. We do not want to be restricted. So a debate has been brought into public attention the present day about whether university students should be required to attend classes. If I, a biology student, was asked to choose, I would not hesitate to choose being present in every classes. I would like to illustrate my reasons in the following passages.
To begin with, and the most serious reason I am concerned, is that if one do not attend classes, he would not get the latest materials to study. Rarely could a book be published without a lot of preparation beforehand which would take a large amount of time, so it is widely acknowledged that books do not carry the first-hand information. In contrast, attending classes with teachers who do research themselves can undoubtedly keep one with improvement in academy frontier. Without the latest knowledge to learn, how can one master a major well? Lots of my classmates have the same comments on this matter.
Besides, it is in the interaction with teachers that helps one to learn more about how to design experiments. We may change parameters in experiments or even insert or omit some procedures, but it is teachers who can tell you not only whether your amendment is correct but also what results those changes would lead to. And as a subject which is tightly involved with experiments, hardly anyone can learn it well without any experiments. All of my biology teachers told my the same.
What’s more, absence from classes means you would miss discussions with classmates in a large scale which also helps you in experiment. It is the discuss with others that ensure you that you have taken all maters into account in your designs.
Taking into account all these factors, despite optional classes can give one more freedom to study, the advantages in attending classes surely carry more weight. I will never miss any class.
