Issue130: How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

开头：一直以来成年人常常很看重孩子的社会化，却同时对孩子们缺乏信心。我对于speaker的两个论点都不太同意。
1、        首先，应当先定义一下社会化和它的重要性。
2、        社会化固然重要，只是一方面，还有许多更重要的事情。一是信仰，人们为了信仰可以摆脱社会潮流的束缚，迈到大多数人前面去引领时代前进。而是智慧和钻研精神。很多科学家哲学家不善于和人打交道，但是他们是被社会所需要的人。
3、        实际上，人们从来没有搞明白究竟应当社会化到什么程度。社会化程度过低显然不好，但是社会化程度过高的人可能过度关注社会，胜过关注自己。那么他可能过分关注别人的意见，而失去坚持信仰的勇气，失去对自我的认同。既然社会化的程度都没有搞清楚，就更不要说探讨如何社会化的问题了。但是，人类社会仍然在前进。
4、        同样的，人们也没有弄懂什么是a better society，自然也很难学去教孩子建设它们。常常有人对科技和环境可能的十分担忧，但历史上人类面临的很多问题也都得到了解决。在我看来，一个good的society最重要的是爱，耶稣说：“我就是爱。”而爱越来越充满在社会中。现在我们的社会战争已经越来越少，我们的孩子对于种族和性别歧视问题也越来越不在意。和平、民主、平等和容忍越来越充满了孩子们的心灵。现在白人孩子都知道我们和黑人孩子是一样的，犹太孩子也知道放弃祖先对德国的仇恨而和德国孩子交朋友，日本孩子和中国孩子已经不像60年前那样相互蔑视对方的生命。我想孩子们已经在学习更好的建设我们的社会了。事实上，我们不必主动去“教”，可能我们只需要用行动给孩子做一个榜样，我们进步的东西已经被传承了。
结尾：

The speaker claims that adults pay most attention to the socialization of children considering the importance of socialization to the society, while they are not able to teach their children how to bring about a better society. However, I find both opinions specious for the reason that there are other things that might be more significant to the society for children to learn. Besides, I suggest that children have been taught how to bring about a better world and they actually carry it out. (要把中心句在这里点出来。)

In the first place, I find it necessary to define socialization before discussing about it. It is common accepted that socialization is a process, through which the children grow up to be a member of the public instead of merely an individual. According to this definition, I have to concede that socialization is fundamental not only for the children themselves but also for the whole society, in that the society requires the obedience and the ability to cooperate and negotiate.

Socialization, on the other hand, cannot be regarded as the most important since it is only one factor in maintaining the harmony of the society, and probably a small factor for the development. In my observation, there are many other respects which prove to be more essential than socialization. One is the inner convictions and the courage to stick to such convictions, which is probably not accepted by most of the people. Nevertheless, those with the conviction of their own are usually the impetus of the whole society. Though Mahatma Gandhi had lived in England for over 10 years and had graduated from a law school in London, he eventually returned to his motherland and guide people to resistance the invasion of England. Though Abraham Lincoln is a white, he devoted himself to the emancipation of African Americans and eventually lost his life for that. These people are hard to forget since they are the pioneers of the world, not because their socialization but because their courage to seek for their dreams.

Knowledge and devotion are other things which in my opinion are more important than socialization. There is no doubt that philosophy, science and technology are indispensable in modern era, yet these belong to those with knowledge, as well as the devotion to research. Many philosophers and scientists cannot communicate fluently with others, which seems that they are not well socialized. Such as Einstein, a person rarely doing research with the help of other scientists, and Beethoven, a strange guy hard to be tolerant and understood. But I’ ll say that, it is people like them who illuminate the worlds, and make us to be more confident with the universe.

Finally, when it comes to the bringing about a better society, I do not quite agree with the opinion of the speaker. Firstly, I find it necessary to ask a question: Have we adults made it clear what the ‘better society’ is? If even we cannot give an exact answer, so how can we teach our children to do such things? In fact, the society it own is making progress since there are more love in the world. As Jesus said: ‘I am love’, I prefer to take love as a standard in evaluating whether the society is better. And from my point of view, it is. Nowadays we are delighted to see the change: Peace and equality are the main topic of children’s mind, instead of wars and prejudice. White children take it for granted that black are the same as themselves, Jewish children won’t be hesitated when they want to make friends with contemporaries and Japanese children find it necessary to respect the life of the Chinese. Children are required and encouraged to leave the unforgiveness with us and take love with them, so I know that they have been taught how to bring out a better world.

In sum, from what has been discussed above, I’ll draw two conclusion about socialization: One is that socialization is not responsible for the society, since there are convictions, knowledge and devotions that are more important than socialization. The other is that children have already been taught to bring about a better society, for love is planted in their hearts.
