Whether an international university should be built with the help from all nations, as the speaker maintains? As far as I am concerned, solving the persistent social problems faced by the whole world need the effort from(of) all the nations, while the global university might not be at least the best one for the word cooperation.
It is true that many of the persistent social problems can not be settled by one country or two. As the development of technology in transportation and communication, the world has already become such an interrelated unity that the relationship between every country can be to some extent compared to those of a village.(这里的类比不是很恰当,世界为题毕竟要比村委会复杂得多) The problems of one country might attribute(contribute) to the disastrous(disasters) of the whole world. Take the ozone depletion, which is one of the most urging problems of the global environmental destruction, as an example. The whole world shares the same ozonosphere, and the discharge of the contaminable smoke, which leads to the ozone depletion, the whole world will suffer from the serious result. In other words, the problem of ozone depletion can only be solved in the way that all the nations on the earth have aware of the problem and are willing to take up(take) the responsibility of preserving the ozone from depletion.
However, whether establishment for a global(of a global university) can conduce to solving the problems is still questionable. First, where to build the global university? No matter where it is chosen to built the university, the transportation fee(这里的transportation fee 似乎不是问题,毕竟现在也有很多学生在国外上学,我认为真正成为问题的是高昂的学费) for the students from other parts of the world might be a problem, especially for those in poverty. And if the transportation fee is paid by the university, such a great amount of money can certainly be invested in a more urging social problem. Secondly, how large the university should be built? The situation that only one or two students from a country can enroll in such university will contribute little to change the conditions in their own countries. And what the language is chosen to teach? If the English is chosen, I doubt whether this university will be regarded as a one to assimilation the cultures from the other parts of world instead of solving the social problems. I concede that there is chance that new technology are introduced to solve such problems, including building a large enough school with language system to teach the students from different countries in different languages, but what matters is where is the money for the cost of the new technology, which is certainly not a small amount, especially when considering there are so many problems need money to solve, such as the hungry children in Africa, raised?
Even granted that the money, no matter how large the amount is, is worth(worthwhile) considering the long- term persistent social problems solved, the question is that whether a global university is the most effective way to solve those problems. Though, as I mentioned above, the problems need the understanding and the efforts from all the nations, many more practical ways other than the global university, can realize such international cooperation. For example, by establishing the global research institution in the fields of science and technology, the less developed counties can benefit during the research of the way to solve the social problems, which might not able to be done in their countries due to poor research conditions, such as introducing the technology of agriculture improvement for more food to people in some Middle East countries, who are now earning their lives by growing opium. What's more, most of the actions on solving social problems are done by those ones in power, which is also the case in democratic countries, such as the agreement of an international treaty on settlement of the social problems. As a result, it might be useful to make the leaders of every nation to understand the persistent social problems rather than the college student, who are not sure what they will do in the future.
To sum up, there are persistent social problems needs the international cooperation, however, the development of a global university might not be a proper one compared to other ways of arouse the responsibility for the pro
