TOPIC: ISSUE83 - "Government should preserve publicly owned wilderness areas in their natural state, even though these areas are often extremely remote and thus accessible to only a few people."
WORDS: 460          TIME: 上午 12:45:00          DATE: 2006-8-26

Nowadays, people are growing concerned that the wilderness areas in their natural state. When it comes to the problem that whether we should make use of them or preserve as they were in the past, people's opinions differ. Some persons may share the belief that we should explore these areas while others disagree. I hold my opinion that this issue should be discussed case by case.

At one hand, we need to explore the wilderness areas and change their bad situation in some cases. First, some areas should be utilized by human for its resource. Under the consideration that the policy would not affect the fundamental environment, government should encourage us to explore it. A typical example is Alaska. It was said to be crazy to purchase this mostly unexplored area from Russian of $7 million. But after a few days, it proved itself as a place full of gold and petroleum. Second, some wildernesses need the reform in order to prevent it from disaster as desertification. It is necessary for us to turn their environment. Desert should be changed into oasis. Las Vegas illustrates this well. It is a only oasis in the desert and serves as a gambling casino to functions as a entertainment.

At the other hand, the government should preserve and protect the wilderness from being ruined and irrupted. While we are not denying that some areas should be applied to the needs of us, it is presumptuous to change all the areas and lose sight of functions more important in nature. Some areas should maintain their environment both for the endangered animals and plants there. For example, Tibetan antelope need the situation of Kekexili area, China, which is extremely remote and only a few people live in. But the Tibetan antelope there need it to survive and immigrate from one place to another where they choose different food and fit best.

Moving on to a wider theme, the most important point of any policy of this problem is sticking up for the natural balance and leaving them as a good property for our posterity. We should respect the rule of the nature and give the living things opportunities to exist. Without a proper policy aimed to each respective wilderness, we may loose much in our lives even our consciousness. When faced with the limited resource in this world, we could collapse into idleness made by ourselves, after all suffering sharpens our senses.

In conclusion, the wilderness areas should be made the proper policy to fit its own situation and improve its advantages. We have no right to dispose them without considering the results and overlook its precious resource. Deep down I cherish my opinion that government should make the policy applied to the respective area.
