Argu 2
The following appeared in a letter sent by a committee of homeowners from the Deerhaven Acres to all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres.

“Seven years ago, homeowners in nearby Brookville community adopted a set of restrictions on how the community’s yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted. Since then, average property values have tripled in Brookville. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting.”

syllabus:
1, Firstly, no evidence is stated in the argument to support the assumption that average property values have tripled in Brookville because of adopting a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting.
2, Secondly, the arguer fails to point out whether Deerhaven Acres is suitable to adopt a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting like Brookville does.
3, Finally, even if restrictions on landscaping and housepainting could cause drastic increase of property in Brookville, the arguer fails to provides substantial evidence to justify that these restrictions would have the same effects in Deerhaven Acres either.


In this argument, the arguer recommends that all homeowners in Deerhaven Acres should adopt a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting in order to raise average property values. To support his conclusion the arguer cites the example of Brookville where average property values have tripled after there homeowners adopted a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting. As it stands, the argument suffers from several critical flaws as follows.

Maybe in Deerhave Acres there are many high buildings and no yards, and so it is diffcult to find a effective way to constitute certain restrictions. But in Brookville majority of buildings are little wood houses with yard and thus it is very appropriate for Brookville to adopt a set of restrictions on landscaping and housepainting.

Finally, even if restrictions on landscapig and housepainting could cause drastic increase of property in Brookville, the arguer fails to provide substantial evidence to justify that these restrictions would have the same effects in Deerhaven Acres either. Some definitely differences between these two places should be taken into account. It is completely possible that wonderful surrounding and harmonious landscaping and colors of homes attract rich men to move to Brookville committee so that real estate continuously rise. Meanwhile, because of bad location or lack of fresh air in Deerhaven Acres nobody would willingly move to this community in spite of how unified this community's
yards' landscaping is and how harmonious its homes' colors are.

In sum, the argument lack credibility because the evidence cited in the analysis does not lend strong support to the arguer's recommendation. To make the argument more convincing, the arguer must provides compelling evidence that in Brookville these restrictions do cause the increase of average property values and the situations of Deerhaven Acres now is similar with it of Brookville seven years ago.
