I basicly agree with the writer's assertion that an individual's greatness cannot be judged objectively by his or her comtemporaries; the most objective evaluators of a person's greatness are people who belong to later time. However, not all the people belong to a later time can well evaluate their ancient greatness. Therefore, in my view individual's greatness can be well estimated not only by the people who belong to a later time, but also by the people in their contemporary.

First of all, according to people's old concept, some greatness will not be well estimated by the comtemporaries. For instance, Copenicus's theory about sun-centred system in our solar system is regarded as a cornerstone to morden astronomy, and be well understood as one of the most important hythosises in history. But people in his contemporary did not realize the importance of his theory, just because the Ptolemaic system dominated people's thoughts at that time. Without breaking out of the old thought barriors, people in contemporary could not well estimated the greatness of individuals.

However, It is true that people from later time can not evaluate their ancient greatness properly or objectively. A good example can give some light to this opinion, After Darwin published his book-The Origin of Species in 1859, which believes that the natural election is due to what the evolutionary change occurs. Untill today there are still many people do not believe that human evolutes from anthropoid for some religious belief. So far as that is concerned, people who belong to a later time can not fundamentally understand the greatness of individuals too.

Furthermore, with the development of the science and technologies, people are likely to accept new and reasonable theories or conceptions, thus, they can also well estimate the greatness of people in their contemporary. Greatness can not be made only by some individuals because people has faced more hardly difficults than before. To deal with those diffcults people need cooperation among different nations and different disipilines. And this kind of  greatness such as the Human Genome Project, are well accepted and regarded as the milestone of people's long way to know how life works. Without people belong to a later time, greatness can also be evaluated by contemporaries.

All in all, not only can people in later time objectively judge the ancient greatness of individuals, but people in contemporary can also do this judgement properly.
