Does reading books become less important than before, in the age of television? The speaker claims so, for the reason that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books. I concede that television has certain advantages over books, such as offering vivid and immediate information. In most cases, however, reading books is still the essential form of learning.
Admittedly, due to the great power of its vivid three-dimensional images and high-speed record, television provides a more perceptual knowledge to people. When it comes to some famous and beautiful tourist attractions such as(e.g., the Imperial Palace, the Great Wall in China and the pyramids in Egypt), which cannot be available in firsthand experience, books cannot compete with television, however keen the author is or however lively the description is. Also, through television, one can learn the latest news about the outcome of President Election, the serious events such as September 11 Attacks, the tidal wave in Indonesia, and the spread of bird flu, instead of several figures from books after a long time. Thus, television plays a vital role/a considerable part in figural tutorial, live broadcast and remote programs.
However, when it comes to abstract theories or ideas and a more rational knowledge, reading books cannot be replaced by television. Certain theories, due to (前面用过,换on account of) its complexity and profound truth, is difficult for any individual to understand just through images, even though a genius he or she may be,(是否该用倒装?).到装应该是这样的吧even though may he or she be genius ,不过I'm not sure,Can one really comprehend the Quantum Mechanics without studying several books or articles? Or can one have a deep insight of religious belief merely through a rough introduction from television. In a word, unless conscientiously reading documents, literatures, articles, and books can one hardly appreciate(这个词在这里作什么讲?如果词语的意思不常用,最好不用在作文里) the essence of certain theories or thoughts.
Moreover, reading books is an active learning, while television is a passive process. (立意很新啊,偶喜欢)When could one learn? What kind of knowledge is available? Which level could one reach? All these are determined only by a program schedule. Moreover, in many cases, especially the political thoughts, television serves as a function of publicity/propaganda, instead of proceeding from the objective facts that is, in one sense, it prevent individuals from comprehensively learn(learning) about certain issues. On the contrary, books offer a dramatically wide world to people, whatever he or she may be interested in or whatever the level of (his or her)education is. Besides, books are far more portable so that one can learn in almost any place where television is not available.
前面的问句写得很好,但是问完了就没下文了.moever以后的内容似乎与TS reading books is an active learning, while television is a passive process脱离了关系,尽管还是有一点联系,但不能很好的证明你的TS
In sum, television does play an important role in imparting instant information and providing vivid images for perceptual recognition. However, for a better and profound understanding, one still need to read books in most cases; after all, books are more reflective, philosophical, comprehensive and convenient
