Ayn Rand once said, “The only purpose of education is to teach a student how to live his life-by developing his mind and equipping him to deal with reality...He has to be taught to think, to understand, to integrate, to prove. He has to be taught the essentials of the knowledge discovered in the past-and he has to be equipped to acquire further knowledge by his own effort.” [学习][As to the statement of an effective education virtually relies on that it is tailored to meet the personal requirement and interests, although interest is the best teacher for students, one may call the results of this manner of teaching into question]这句话不是很了解: whether it will be conducive for the students to reach the aim of education Ayn Rand proposed? Whether it serves as a proper way to lead them to form a more complete personality? Or is it possible for the education to be designed to meet everybody’s need?
Admittedly, without enough interests into the subjects one studies, nobody will devote his/her energy or time to engaging in it with great concentration. Mozart is such a good example, in his childhood, his father intended to cultivate him into a governmental official. However, Mozart went beyond his father’s will, and instead he took extraordinary interest on music. If it were not his father reverse his attitude towards the significance of child’s interest in one’s grow-up, hardly could Mozart achieve such great accomplishments.[莫扎特的例子看起来是为了证明教育应当满足个人兴趣爱好,但是第一句话的重点是把兴趣和学习结合起来,例子并没有做出恰当的支持] Thus, from this point, a special designed curriculum, including such as the classes of music performance, modeling, astronomy, which certain students take great fun of, yet not every school can afford all children to attend.[最后的总结似乎在表达另一个思想:学校的资源不足以满足学生的兴趣]
However, once the children are entitled the freedom to choose the subjects, they may be easily involved into blindfold plight, because they are not capable enough to weigh the importance and trivialness of these disciplines concerning their future occupation, or make a mature decision according to their own traits. For instance, recently in China, there are a vast number of little net-residents who indulge in the internet games. Imaging that if they choose their interested subjects ---such as computer software development[插入语是不是两边都加--?不确定], any a small part of them, or even nobody, can be tomorrow’s experts in this field. How about others?[似乎这个例子有一点极端,大多数人都是网游的消费者,而不会从事吧] What should they do, who hardly master other subjects’ knowledge, once having no potential in this area? Meanwhile, following the interests’ guidance, they are prone to choose onefold subject. Nonetheless, acquiring systematic knowledge from other fields whose borderline between are more ambiguous demands for cross-discipline penetration: Only integrating the electronic knowledge and basic mathematics, for instance, can a student be more potential than others.
Besides that, students should be required to learn other apparently disinteresting but truly helpful disciplines. Logical and critical thinking can help them to change from simply receiving passively into distinguishing tanglesome information and picking the most favorable ones; history furnishes [furnish,学习一下]them experience and lessons to prevent them involving in repeating falls; Moral class teaches how to be an honest and educated person, unlike the[去掉the] Hwang Woo-sak. They are the necessities for a human being to achieve the ultimate goal---true, good, and beauty, as Plato said.[这段论证不错,内容充足]
In sum, to be a genuine effective education, it should know how to inspire acquired or induced interests of students, tailor the curriculum pointedly and lead them to be more adaptive to society, as a valid orbit, sending these satellites into the outer space.
