In most cases, I agree with that money spent on research is almost always a good investment. Lots of facts have proved that both the scientific and social researches have greatly helped us human beings to improve our daily life. The reserches can bring us not only short-term benefits but also long-term ones. However, one obvious feature of research is the unpredictability of its result, therefore, sometimes the research costs a lot of money which could have been used for solving urgent social problems. In the above degree, we have to weigh the value of the controversial research carefully.

As far as everyone knows, the source of every country is limited, especially of the developing countiry. Thus we have to try our best to make full use of all the sources including money on hand to bring our people a better life. With the fast development of our society, the science and technique plays more and more important part in our life. The research on the new techniques and products in different fields such as high technology, medicine and agriculture as well has changed our world a lot. The research on computer science leads us to an information times whice makes the communications among individuals much easier and promots the working efficientness for a large number of companies. The research on agriculture cause the increase of the production of the rice and wheat. New medicines and treatments utilities are born one by one which attributes to the medical research and the exploration to the more effictive ways of treatments.

The researches to the social problems such as the criminals of the youth and how to improve our education system are also helpful. The money spent on the survey and statistics to those problems will help us to analyze the current situations of our education and the minds of the youth. The teachers and the parents will know the roots which could cause their children to become a dangerous one. Then they could take immediate proper measures to protect their kids, decrease the number of the crimes and cultivate more talents for our society.

Sometimes it is hard to tell whether the result of  a research is good or not. It happens that some researches will bring us long-term benefits which will take us several years or even longer time to discover. Such as the lasting reserches on Mathematics and Physicals, it is hard to say what  the  practical usage of those theories is, but they are the basements of our scientific system. We are using the achivements of the ancestors so we believe our researches will bring something good for our desedents. If the results of that research are controversial, we have to consider this kind of research carefully, such as the research on the technique of clone and the unknow universe. The technique of clone have caused a world-wide discussion and no one could assert this technique will lead the human beings to a promising future or a terrible hell. The experiments performed in space have inspired the couriosity of the scientists, politicians and businessmen. Perhaps the huge costs could be used to build more shools for the poor students, to improve the conditions of the public health-care centers or solving the housing problems for the people who have no home. We have to control the money spent on the unknow fields and keep a fiscal balance between the long-term research and the short-term social development.

In sum, money spent on research is usually a good investment according to the examples and analysis above, but if the results of that research are controversial, then we have to try our best to make the research under control and if the short-term social development is much urgent, then we have to make decisions carefully.
