1 社会进步的动力往往来源于科学技术的发展，因此科学研究在推动社会发展方面起到巨大作用
2 然而，有争议的研究所产生的结果并非全都是好的，并且开展研究之前大多数研究成果是不确定的，在无法判断的时候更应当慎重
3 即使研究成果被认为将会对人类有益时，我们也应当保持清醒的头脑，必须了解科学研究的过程是不是值得投入

I agree with the speaker's assertion that money spent on research is generally necessary. However, the speaker believes that spending money on the research is a good investment, no matter whether the result is benefit to humans. In my view, we should positively distinguish the research in order to help people advance the world and themselves in a better way.

Since the power of the society development usually comes from the improvement of technology, the research takes a huge influence on advance the society. The technology is changing one's life all the time and makes one's life much more valuable. For instance, Wate's machine took up the industry evolution which increases the producing speed and deduces the cost; The 电气 evolution, symbolic with the light and the phone invented by Edison, prompted the communicate among the worldwide; The spreading internet, the rapid growth of computer and the information superhighway all of above accelerate the prosperity of global economy. Without the valuable research results, human might still struggle for their lives and have hardly any sprit desire. Thus, a elegant investment on research is necessary.

It is true that research has already take an important part on the science, however, the results, especially of the controversial research, sometimes, make the harmful effect on the society development. We should be cautious about the research whose aims and results are not very clear. After all, destroy is easier than construction, and some unsound results can bring a large jeopardy which is even irredeemable. One apt illustration involves the so-called "Star Wars" defense initiative, supported by Reagan administration. In review, the initiative is a fallacious idea, a waste of money and the reason of the US recess.  Moreover, the administration ignored some questions that, in fact, lead to the rampant gang violence and federal budget deficit. In a sense, not only may the uncertain research be impossible to do profit work, but also the result will bring a disaster.

Even if, the result of some research is determined to take a positive effect on the humans, one also owes to hold the intelligible mind to it and be acquainted with the research process. If the scientists do some research in an illicit way, it is not worth to spend the money on it. If so, the investment is a waste of the taxpayer dollars. For example, Hwang woo Suk, a South Korean veterinary researcher, was once designated South Korean's first-ever top scientist, winning special funding to do the further research. But it turns out that his success of therapeutic cloning was actually based on the false pretenses. Although, what work he did, as indeed a stigma of science, at first did not be revealed out, it is the fact that the funding and the belief on his work is entirely a terrible investment. Before one makes a choice, the significant thing is to analysis whether the research is worthy the investment or not.

In sum, without the investment on the research, the society cannot develop so rapid; and without the investigating on the research, human cannot immure the impairment. Thus, while spending amount of money on research, we should positive recognize the research in case it will do some hurt to human society.
