Education is one of the most important tasks for the government to carry out, and in the individual level, it is the main provider for opportunities and personal success. What is the effective way for the administrators to pursuit and how could people get nurtured from education? The speaker claims that specified education system, in other words, the one designed to meet individual needs and interests, should be the only effective proposal. In my opinion, I concede that education approached to individual needs maximizes the capability of individual development and might disinter more gem to shine in the sun, however, we should not neglect that personal needs and interests are based on the cognition of the world, which is developed with the help of general education that requires more concentration.
In the personal level, specific designed syllabus might be the most ideal path for people to go, but inevitably, we are always stuck by the requisite curriculum which abrades our innate gift. We all have the experience of being stuffed with knowledge day after day, like a sausage case, compacted but suffering from dyspepsia. The only chance that we become refreshed is the time we close up the palling books and take step into soul inspiring courses. So we can easily find that part of the classroom gets revived, while another corner becomes quiet. Unfortunately, seldom do teachers notice this and never have they thought of the possibility of quenching intelligence if such education system doesn't consider further amendments. God puts different talent in people's heart not for the purpose of remodeling, but for the goal of individual shining. With our education system modified, we might have more Steven Hawking, Bill Gates or Martin L. King who leave magnificent records in history and thus accelerate the human development in different aspects.
Nevertheless, in the social level, we still don't have enough resources to reach individual needs. After World War II, the population expands to almost 50 billions, among which most increases in the developing countries in Africa and Asia. With limited development of infrastructures, governments still have to address the problems such as famine, civil war, public health and corruptions. Acknowledging the importance of education, each government and the United Nations have invested considerable amounts of funds to establish the appropriate education system, and developed countries have donated supplementary funds and personnel to help. Compared to the large population, such aids are far from matching the basic line, not taking the individual needs into account. In China, more government budgets and charities go to the northwest, the most indigent part of the country, to overhaul the dilapidated school buildings, reimburse the yearly unpaid teachers and provide text books for students. Without such basic elements of general education, deliberated education system to cherish individual needs and interests is far beyond the schedule. Even in developed countries, there's always the deficiency in budgets for education development. With absence of sufficient funds, the administration has to suspend the innovative project which enables lower teach-student ratio, more specific curriculum to reach personal needs.
Admittedly, specified education to carter different inquiries from individuals is the ideal model of the education system, we have to find the pragmatical way to modify education within limited resources. Engendering people to think critically is the most important part of education, or the most effective way to make people intelligent. Conflicted with whatever problem, new thought or unexplored region of knowledge, a liberated people could dealing with it with the help of critical thinking and finally find the merits of dabbling into areas other than his own interests. Concerning about high education, the administration might focus more on the specified personal needs to improve academic development.
In conclusion, implementation of general education is a more exigent need than fulfilling individual interest in any society. Although it might be more effective and attractive to have the latter one accomplished in all levels of education, we still have to consider the financial refrain and broader needs for education in the world, which probably undermines the charisma of offering specified service.
