What strategy should a student take while confronting with spectrums of knowledge in his everyday life? Should he accept anything he gets from teachers or keep in a position of skepticism to whatever he is informed? The speaker prefers the latter attitude since he considers learning as an aggressive process other than the passive way. I concede the merit of students to purchase a positive position among current education system, however, overemphasis on skepticism in some stage of learning might be unnecessary, more importantly, it might even be noxious to students' professional life and in a larger extant impede academic development.
Admittedly, imparting the appropriate skepticism which triggers students to think more critically and activates the potential learning ability innate inside(不明白是什么意思) should be an indispensable part of education. Education is a far-reaching program not only for individual but for the whole society. In personal level, passive learning might bring students higher GPA level and would be appreciated by some myopic informers(不明白是什么意思). Nevertheless, I believe students with the ability to hold a skeptic perspective on what they study would be more welcomed in leading universities or any fields of work, and could be potential in personal development. Being Chinese students under years of sausage packaging process at schools, we find considerable obstacles in problem solving or even in establishing an effective opinion on a given topic. Employers always complain about interns' ineption although they were recruited for their supreme academic performance in colleges.(这个例子有关系吗?) If our educational system cultivated students to bring certain skepticism on subjects they learn and established more critical way of thinking, students might take less time to steer away from the errant path so as not to be the loser in this competing world.
For the academic fields, skepticism could be the incentives for further development and brings unprecedented breakthroughs which fundamentally change our lives. Without Copernicus' skepticism on what he'd been taught in the seminary about the center of the universe, the astronomy might still be stuck in the nebula of theology or astrology; Sir Alexander Fleming's critical thinking about the specific phenomenon appeared in one of his plate cultures for microbes preluded the triumph of human being in confliction with infectious diseases. Skepticism is not merely suspicion on what is informed, but a challenging process of pointing out the essential elements embedded with the superficial appearance. Through such way of thinking stands the truth which might cost us lives and hundreds of years detour.( 我对楼主你的词汇能力太佩服了)
Although appropriate skepticism is wholesome for the students to distinguish opinions and facts, over-reaching in it could waste students' time and probably trap people into an unnecessary self-induced morass. No other more effective ways than directly accepting the basic knowledge of substance, life and natural phenomena for elementary school students to get start their life-long way to be educated. At the beginning of our study, we could get some advantage of our ancestors' achievements so that more time is available for us to pursue further accomplishment. Furthermore, it would be quite ridiculous to ask students to keep a skeptic eye on those universally accepted knowledge. For instance, anyone who tries to argue that Earth could be any shape but round must be considered as insane. Or it could be dogmatic to ask students to be skeptic for learning's sake. Skepticism is just one part of objective way of getting knowledge, it should be the natural reaction for students to impose skepticism on bewildering problems, not as mechanic as what the speaker alleges.
In sum, the purpose of education is to engender the new generation to think critically and effectively. Personally, it might be a way for people to get trained and be skilled to earn a life, skepticism is important for an individual to discern basic fact from its deceiving outside and enables people to reach the real fact of the subjects. Nevertheless, to bring skepticism on everything we learn or encounter could be too polarized which might drag ourselves to self-deny and nihilism.
