The speaker asserts that education is so important that both parents and communities must be involved rather than to leave it solely to a group of professional educators. I concede that it is to some extent parents and communities could do certain help for local school in education, whereas consider it from all aspects and in the long run, it will do more harm than good to education.

Admittedly, as for children, parents are no doubt the most conversant person, who are familiar with them and take care of them. No other person than the parents know their children well, either what the children are interested in or what is fit for them. So in the beginning, it is possible for the children to learn easily and quickly with the help of their parents and also because of the parents’ experience as well as decisions, mistakes and fouls made by children could be significantly reduced.

Nevertheless, it is not always the case that parent’ help would benefit the children in their studying. Firstly, decisions that parents made for their children are often subjective which could not reflect the real interests of them. Nowadays, it is common that a child takes at least 1 after-school class arranged by the parents. But the child, when asked, was obliged to take the class which he has no interests at all. Parents’ making decisions on their own wishful thinking without taking into account the children’ idea finally leads them to the condition of studying-weary. A boy of my neighbor is in grad four in elementary school and his parents are very strict with him. They have arranged three classes for the little guy in the evening, including drawing, piano and mathematics. Every evening the boy has to go for a class, after which he has to do homework. He has hardly any time to watch TV or even play with other children. He always claims that he doesn’t want to go to the class and he even doesn’t like drawing at all. But his parents insist that he should learn more skills in order to have a bright future.

Secondly, parents who always decide for the children would become a prop of them, thus influence their self-confidence and the ability of making decision on their own. As an individual, people will sooner or later get by on his own. A child always cover by his parents is just like a flour under the greenhouse which could hardly survive if the greenhouse would never exist any more. So it is true that a child could thrive with the decisions of his parents, but in the long run, what if his parents can not help him one day?

In sum, education is indeed so important that it is better to leave the children to a group of professional educators rather than get parents and communities involved. Education is a long term affairs which we should not just focus on the immediate profits. Also education is a systemic procedure which could only be improved by enhancing the system, that is the educator and the method.
