I agree with the speaker’s assertion that individual responsibility is a necessary fiction which indicated that individual should be hold accountable for their own actions. Without it, the civil and democratic society is just a vision amount to fantasy. However the speaker overstates the forces which largely determined people’s behavior over their own making, because individual responsibility as a moral concept has much place at the individual and society level.

By natural, individual responsibility spawn by our experience and common sense which is even formed unconscious, but absolutely rule our lives. For example, we might be shamed of delinquency as a employee , as a member of one family, we eagle to make members happy, at least avoid to break up, at large, as a general civilian we want to be a qualified, following any instructions, obeying to rules, complying with laws. To the contrary, the one without the above, will get fired for delinquency, alienated by their family for not performing his responsibility and not care about their family and lost the confidence and proud as a citizen, to individual themselves it must be a nightmare, when it comes to the society, the one just like the bomb which will explode on random, no one knows what will invited by the one who have no responsibility.

As we all know, individuals consist the society, just like atoms compose a molecular, individual with out responsibility amount to atoms disorder, more confusing means bigger entropy value, as the value increasing over the crucial, the molecular would be spoiled ineluctablely. Commeasured with molecular systems, society’s stabilization is up to the consciousness that individual account for their own actions.

As for the determination of people’s behavior, I concede that a series of laws have constituted to enable our daily life regular, or on the purpose of security and so forth ,such as constitution, criminal law, civil law and so on. The code and laws as a force caution against criminal – a particular behavior over the responsibility. But I think this kind of criminal is only at low rate. Mostly we know what to do , what not to do, just under their own making. After all, compelling force is the instrument but not the end, what we should do to make our surroundings harmonious is not the force but the will we which invited by individuals own making.

In sum, individual responsibility is necessary which is the very force to propel the human society forward in the course of human harmony. However in current society, it is necessary to use the force compensated.
