Many people agree that the meaning of zoos is educating our human beings, so we can learn animals better. A caricature is still vivid in my mind, in the national zoo, a lovely girl holding her mother's hand with a figure pointing at a picture of a common monkey we can often see in present mountains or zoos, asks, "Mommy, what is it?" I really doubt shall we be happy and comfortable when the existence of zoo is just the evidence that large number of animals existed and then vanished because of the cruel human.

Admittedly, innumerable natural catastrophes may lead to the extinct of species. The great biologist Darwin once said (and I paraphrase)," I guess no one can be more shocked than me by the extinct of species." He went to tremendous places to discover the relationship among distinct species and contributed to our human beings the work piece -- Origin of Species. Through immense evidence, he found many species had eliminated through selections or contests which he called "Natural Selection." Take the disappearance of dinosaurs for example, although we don't find out the reason why they died out until now, we can make a conclusion that they could adapt to the changes of nature and environment which led to the extinct.

However, more data and evidence have alarmed us that the human activities result in more species died out in the past several hundred years. For one thing, enormous species extinct because of human’s hunting. The disappearance of Dodo is a perfect case in the point. Dodo, which once lived in Mauritius-- an African country, died out in 1681 as a result of over-hunting. At first, there were more Dodo and fewer people, people hunted Dodo for their delicious fresh, afterwards, with the increase of population, the desire and need for fresh went up as a consequence, so residents there began to hunt Dodo immoderately which led to the extinct of Dodo at last. Immense species vanished because of the same reason-- the overpopulation of human. For another thing, environmental pollution also leads to the decreasing of species. Several times, I was shocked by the sight of the terrible living conditions of endangered species. Oil floating above the sea, and sent anywhere by the wind, a large number of fish and sea birds lying dead near or in it; a turtle which may had survived for more than fifty years was choked up by a plastic bag, then died depressively with the puzzle why the jellyfish couldn't reach his stomach successfully; a mother polar bear was looking at her hungry children bears sorrowfully having any method for hunting enough fish for them. It is said about 75 species die out everyday, and the figure is 3 every second.

Living in the steel forest, we have forgotten the fresh smell of trees in the rainy days which was so common in old days; eating the abundant delicate food, we ignore the hunger of animals which lack of food as the result of human’s over-hunting; listening to the deafening rock music, we miss the lovely songs of birds once flied over the sky…

A singer song," Never let the last water be our tear’. To this I would add: Never let the last sound be our regretful sigh...
