第十七次作业: communication
Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Face-to-face communication is better than other types of communication, such as letters, e-mail, or telephone calls. Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

As the development of modern technology, there are tremendous communication channels for people to transport information or exchange ideas. Every type of communication has its values as existence. I would not agree that face-to-face communication is better than other accesses.

It is admitted that face-to-face communication can exchange the interlocutor’s ideas in a most straightforward way. Speakers can make themselves understood with speeches, facial expressions, gestures, or demonstrations with assistance. Listeners have an easy access to catch the points and offer feedbacks accordingly. However, it is not always convenient for people to gather around and long-distant communication is demanded nowadays. A second possible drawback of face-to-face communication is that people do not have much time to think before spelling their mind out, and quarrels are easily evoked.

Comparatively, telephones provide people with an efficient communication manner, especially when interlocutors are far away from each other. The advanced communication services allow long-distance talk between two people, and multiple-line telephone meeting is popular in international companies. Besides, talking on the phone can avoid face-to-face embarrassment or clashes sometimes. Thus it is a good communication method.

What are more sentimental and informative than telephones turn to be letters and e-mails. Writers have more time to think and express their feelings, or to explain an issue. They can also draw a picture or attach photos with the mails. It is a best way to show sincere concerns or wishes to families and friends. Communication is not only to exchange information or knowledge, but also to nurture relationships. With help of such an implicative but vivid method, communication will become more harmonious.

In a nut shell, I would conclude that every communication channel has its own grant. It is hasty to rank them as better or not. As long as face-to-face communication exists, it facilitates a straightforward interaction; as long as telephones, letter, or e-mails exist, they offer long-distance services and improve relationships.
