Issue8 ‘It is often necessary, even desirable, for political leaders to withhold
information from the public.’

1确实需要withhold some information.

I fundamentally agree with the assertion that it is necessary for political leaders to conceal some inner details from the civilians. Political leaders, inaugurated from sophisticated general election, must have deepened insight and perspicuous mind upon emergencies or other urgent events and societal issues. On the other hand, if they reveal all the details, some things ,even irrelevant to them, would come into being.

Admittedly, the citizens, the main part of our society and the chief productivity, should have the right to know something about the country they do service to, thus they might know how to function next pertinently. And they even can’t feel a membership, a respect of individual identity, in this large group unless they are informed with the most current and urgent events.

But by contemplating further what mentioned above, extending this assumption too far lacks of both empirical and normative standpoints.

The chief reason is there is something existing only to be solved by the leaders themselves, that calls for deepened insight and clairvoyance respectively including the likes of terrorism, diplomatism and political strategies and so forth. The civilians could not be composed and intelligent enough to distinguish and thus determine the kinds of sacred and crucial events, thus might not make sense. Actually, they even don’t care about what would happen about the country as a whole, due to the deviation of them—perhaps be far--from the individual profits.

Moreover, something like the terrorism would cause societal riots and sabotages in that they do not have the knowledgeable minds to cope with such the emergency, let alone they haven’t force to fight against, so they just tend to be flustered confronting some emergencies. The military force belongs to government, in other words, they could make the conclusive and relatively sensible plan to solve them. Every place should have rules and of equal importance it is only by obeying them and complete what they are in charge of that an organization, such as a country, would function what they are expectant of.

However, to conceal all details about the country especially the campaigns covered by the curtains of authority would not serve to thrive our society, which is often considered reactionary and undemocratic. We need look no further than an oft-used example that the civilians often care about the convenience and welfare , what closer to their daily life, the government offers. This could be traceable to the general election where the most sensible, rational and far-sighted leader, who is always considered regarding both of them as the means to flourish the country certainly even in rhetorical way, would emerge. So the government should pose a poll letting the civilians to participate, rather than inaugurate someone furtively, which can be a very sensitive way to cause a misunderstanding and demagoguery among folks. Conversely, I find it telling to cite water-gate scandal that president Nixon’s active role in the cover-up of information put his interets in par over the broader interests of the government, setting in motion a chain of riffles against the government’s credibility among the mass media

In sum, a successful and sensible political leader would withhold information ,to some extent, and utilize the each governmental right to solve problems as effective as possible and reveal some positive political strategies and negative effects we should notice, the motion and guidelines along which the nation is going and the events that can’t be determined like some uncontrolled natural disasters or terroristic catastrophes in some ways, appealing to the mass to be united, relevant to folks’ profits and lives. Consequently, nations could be rich and stable. (597words)

Agree.

1, expand the horizon and deepen insight, should go outside to learn sth.
Keep pace with the eventful world.
In addition, when professors work in professions relevant to the courses they teach, they are converting their knowledge to property of the society. In my view, most Chinese companies employed college professors as technocrats. Through this way, professors make contribution to society directly. I think this is another equally important responsibility of college and university, besides instructing students.

2, however, learning outside should be based on a principle that you are proficient in your current job that is impede your development, and are aware of the proximate trend in today’s education, which on a large scale influences the studying.
诸葛亮,a chinese militarist, research of current conditions across the country.

3, If not, the bureaucracy and the temptation of the society would rot the benefits.
First, it seems ill-conceived to relegate decision and choices about arts funding to a handful of bureaucrats, who are likely to decide based on their own quirky notions about some agenda, and whose decisions might be susceptible to influence-peddling. It is abnormal in the democratic society but normal when it comes to castes.

skeleton for 147The following appeared in an editorial in a business magazine.

"Although the sales of Whirlwind video games have declined over the past two years, a recent survey of video-game players suggests that this sales trend is about to be reversed. The survey asked video-game players what features they thought were most important in a video game. According to the survey, players prefer games that provide lifelike graphics, which require the most up-to-date computers. Whirlwind has just introduced several such games with an extensive advertising campaign directed at people 10 to 25 years old, the age-group most likely to play video games. It follows, then, that the sales of Whirlwind video games are likely to increase dramatically in the next few months."

1,it is entirely possible that game players will buy other companies' products which also have the features mentioned above.
2,it is hasty generation that the players only focus on the quality of graphics. It is obvious that price or gut in games preoccupy the gamers. Considering that high quality equals high price, it's unreasonable to ignore the element of price.
3,no evidence shows that the age group,10 to 25, is the most possible part in playing games.
4,maybe the author could not predict that optimistically.
it is because the sales have declined that in the circles the gamers might not accept the products of same brand so quickly.
