   The artists and the art are like complementary commodities, when talking about artistic works, both of which are mentioned as twins. According to the definition of the lasting value, it is the artist who brings up the lasting value in the long history. However, the critic is indispensable when referred to those artistic works.
   What is the lasting value? In my view of point, it is the influence of something that offers to the whole society for a long time, permeating into nearly all the pores of public’s life. Such influence are cross-sectional, which are relating to many aspects of life, politics, economics, education, culture, etc included; and time-serial, which are not only flourishing in the contemporary times but also impacting on the life of the posterity. To such point, it can also be interpreted that lasting value is something that creators that put into the world and the receivers take away from. Take the trend of thought in the Enlightenment for example, it is the ideological works concerning of the political system and the distribution of rights acts as impetus of the revolutions called transition from feudalism to capitalism，like the comments on the social contracts written by Rousseau; and the Montesquieu’s theory of the spirit of the law. Besides these, people were waking up and then pursuing the freedom of individual and legitimacy of private property at the time.
  So according to the definition the lasting value aforementioned, there is no doubt that artists are those persons who create the something of the last value, when using the definition as a ruler. As we know, such influence of lasting value is the result of the great artistic works, which are created by the artists. To shed light on the assertion, two points are illustrated below: First, great works are born though integrating the artist’s unmatchable talent, unbeknown effort, character with the special experience of their life. Second, it is the artist gives birth to the uniqueness of work. For example, as to the great novel “The pride and the prejudice” made by Austin, were based on her lamentable and heart-struck loving experience describing the typical peaceful rustication in Britain. Another example is Van Gogh, who has unique sense of color, light and nature of life, bestow his masterpiece sunflowers with the hope for life and pursue of power. Works of this kind is unparalleled as the frescos in Sistine Chapel.
  Although the critics do not create canonical works, they also made a tremendous amount of contributions to the progress of producing lasting value and that of spreading. The critic, who has been educated in the specifying area of arts, owns abundant professional knowledge and ability of analyzing and assessing works impartially. As a result, with the effort of the critics, such as pointing out the foibles and emphasizing the advantages in the artists’ works, the artists will be able to do a more perfect job through deeper communication. Furthermore, as to the commons with average knowledge of arts, they can focus on the artistic works worthy of time in appreciating with the help of the assessing process of the critics, what is more, the public can have a better understanding of the expression of the works through the critics explanation. “Breakback mountain”, directed by the famous director Ann Li, receiving many academic prizes is a film that describing a loving story of homosexuality. While through the critics’ work, the public found that the topic of the film is the true meaning of love generally rather than specially.
   In a word, the originality and the uniqueness of the artists give the birth to the artistic works, bearing the weight of lasting value. However, the critics act as complementary roles in the process. So it is the combination of them gives the whole society something of the lasting value.
