ISSUE150 - "Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete."
字数528
I do not agree with the speaker’s broad assertion that tourism will soon become obsolete. However, I am standing on the same side with the speaker on the standpoint that people would become familiar with many places they have never visited through modern media. My points of contention with the speaker involve the functions of modern media in nowadays tourism and the significant meanings of travel, as discussed below.
Apparently, modern media play a concernful role in modern tourism, and its contribution based on the following three aspects. Firstly, pre-tourist could get some background knowledge of the travel destination such as the history derivation of a key point of the interest or the tradition of local residents and so on. Secondly, travel and hotel information, which is inseparable with a happy journey, might illustrated detailedly on the internet by the former tourists. Lastly, modern media, though propagandizing fabulous landscapes or historic site, also prompt people to take travel which is out of family travel plan schedule. From what has been discussed above, the conclusion, modern media not only make people familiar with a great many new places, but also give pre-tourist a lot of practical information, is warranted.
The primary worthiness of tourism is that it can lead the mutation of tourists’ mentality, which arises on the journey of the tourism. In the history, great ideology, outlandish inspiration and extraordinary imagination are always sprouted out in journey. As the appendix, litterateur, artist and scientist are gestated. For instance, Confucius founded Confucianism during his journey among several ancient Chinese countries, recorded in Analects that contain a collection of Confucius’s sayings and dialogues compiled by disciples after his death. Darwin’s journey on Beagles, which bring him the thought of Origin of Species, could also justify this. Obviously, not all the tourists are litterateurs, artists or scientists; that means journey could not bring significant mentality mutation back to them. However, the change given by the tourism in ideology, inspiration and imagination is also irreplaceable.
Tourism is the nature of man; and it is also the nature of all the living things on earth. Any informed people who have a little basic knowledge of earth’s ecosystem would find that all the living things are exist in everlasting traveling and moving. Such as the seasonal migration of birds and fishes, the mass movement of mammals. Taking into account all the factors provided above, it come to that only in travel, such a special circumstance, our subconscious hidden deeply would be activate. While modernization and civilization are obliterating human’s nature, tourism is the necessary way to satisfy people’s that. Only in the journey, tourist could have the opportunity to embrace the nature, make the freedom of the soul come true.
In sum it is very likely that the speaker’s broad assertion, tourism will soon become obsolete because people become familiar with a great many places through modern media, is not persuasive. As the nature of human beings, tourism would still popular among modern people in spite of they might have already familiar with the traveling place; and it also could bring worthiness back to the tourists.
