------题目------
Copper occurs in nature mixed with other minerals and valuable metals in ore, and the proportion of copper in the ore can vary considerably. Until fairly recently, the only way to extract pure copper from ore was by using a process that requires large amounts of electric energy, especially if the proportion of copper in the ore is low. New copper-extracting technologies can use up to 40 percent less electricity than the older method to process the same amount of raw ore, especially when the proportion of copper in the ore is high. Therefore, we can expect the amount of electricity used by the copper-extraction industry to decline significantly.
------正文------
The arguer expresses his optimism on the bright future of New copper-extracting technologies which would greatly reduce the amount of electricity in copper industry. To support his recommendation, the arguer makes a comparison on two method to show the advantageous feather of the new. However, have a close scrutiny of the evidence mentioned by the arguer, some critical logical flaws prevent it to be acceptable and convincing as it stands.
My first contention with the arguer is the credibility of the comparison which seemingly overstates the benefit brought by new technology--this new one can use up to 40 percent less electricity than the older method only when the proportion of copper in the ore is high. However ,as to the older one, the arguer begs the question what this new method performs when the proportion is low, in stead unjustifiably critic the waste
of electricity of the older one. Perhaps, the new technology performance the same, even poorer than the older one. Or perhaps the great majority of potential companies at which this new method aimed are are low in the proportion .For that matter, I couldn't see any bright future of this so-call advanced technology in copper industry.
Secondly, even we assume that new technology performs superior to the older one which is not the only but the necessary factor to success, its appliance, by which I mean its acceptance by copper companies or working fields , is still related to other aspects. Maybe this method is quite costly in maintaining and repairing or easy to damage, if so, the owner of the company would hesitate, think over, and weigh up the input and output. As there is no compelling evidence to show that the amount of money devoted to technological __ will bring more benefit or reduce more in term of fee of electricity. Further more all that weakens strength of logic in this arguments.
Finally, query the acceptance of employees is critical. After all, it is the employees that create the wealth as well as guarantee the prosperity of the company, the complexity and unfriendly operation system always to demean employees' willingness to adopt this new method no matter how it can reduce electricity.
In sum, the arguer’s optimism on the new technology is from his subjective predication without no essential surveys which is thought to be the key to the success of combat of business. To bolster it, he or she should base the comparison on the same ground, make a detailed description on its other advantages which is the same, or even more impotent to determine the justification of the company owner.
