"How children are socialized today determines the destiny of society. Unfortunately, we have not yet learned how to raise children who can help bring about a better society."

Should we be concerned about children who are as crucial as to determine the destiny of society, as the author allege? In a senseI tend to concede that children fly our dream and destiny of society. However, there are many factors influencing the destiny of society. On the other hand, I do not completely side with next statement because the author claims the view by overlooking the crucial rule of another issue and unfairly give them a second priority. In my point of view, every generation have no use for learning how to raise children who can help bring about a better society.

To begin with, consider the author’s first assertion that society’s destiny depends no how children are socialized. Socialization is only one factor influencing the extent to which an individual will ultimately contribute to a better society and it is even not the most important one. Values such as honesty, persistence, probity, kindness and so on are core lessons inculcated by parents and school systems. To illustrate this point clearly, we can see that morality education of children also determine the destiny of society. If they are only socialized but do not pay attention to their morality, this event that Mitsubishi Motors had concealed significant defect in the break system of Pajero, one of the company’s major products, will replay. Hundreds of car accidents were directly caused by caused by the break error. Thus, the company suffered a great goods return, losing not only the market share but also the confidence of consumers. Therefore, we should want all children not only to be socialized but also to know and to make their own: honesty, fairness, self-discipline, fidelity to task, friends, and family, personal responsibility, love of a country, and belief in the principles of liberty, equality and the freedom to practice one’ faith.

Secondly, consider the author’s next claim that we have not yet learn how to raise children who know who to create a better society. If we define a “better” society as one characterized by greater tolerance of viewpoints and people who are different from ourselves, greater respect for individual rights, and greater cooperation across cultural and natural boundaries, then the young people of the most recent half century are creating a better society. We have seen increasing sensitivity in our society toward ensuring public health by policing the food and drug industries and by protecting our natural environment. We can view these young people as being more sensitive to and respectful of the rights of women, various ethnic and racial groups, homosexuals, etc.

On the other hand, we can use same standard to scale different eras. Let us see Bill Gates. When he made his decision to drop out from Harvard, he did not care too much of result. Gates entered Harvard in 1973, and dropped out two years later when he and Allen started the engine of Micrsofe. Many people did not understand why he gave up such a good opportunity to study in the world’s No. 1 University. Some one think he is cracker-barrel and blindfold like a kid. However, with size comes power, Microsoft dominates the PC market with its operating system, such as MS-DOS and Windows. Now, Microsoft becomes the biggest software company in the world and Bill Gates becomes the richest man in the world. Thus, teenager did not need to learn how to build a better society from others.

To sum up, I disagree with author’ view, there are many factors determine the destiny of society not only socialization and young people can bring us a better society but not learning from others.

先说说我对这个题目的理解吧,我对题目持的态度是agreesocialized意味着对社会具备更多的责任感,这是作为社会人首先要有的,所以决定社会的命运(看了你第一个观点,觉得自己的判断不足,呵呵)。接着,后半句,我觉得是对前半句的延伸,how to raise children的意思是how to socialize children,我举出了两个原因,fail to notice the importance of socializing children(school and family), over socialize(mostly by media).
