Which is more important, effort or achievement? Different people have different viewpoints. As far as I am concerned, reward is an encouragement, and every student should have it. Not everyone can get good grades, but all of them can make effort, thus, effort is more important.

First of all, it is unfair for us to use the achievements as the criteria, because not all the students are in the same level. Not all the students are good at study; some of them may have difficulty in study. As a result, they may not achieve the same goal. For example, it is evidently impossible for a student who is poor in Math to get the same high grade with the student who is quite good at Math. If we award students only for their grades, students studying poor will never have the chance to get it, and they will lose their confidence in study.

On the other hand, good grades often give students stress, and reward is no more encouragement. For the students who are poor in study, achieving good grades is almost impossible, and of course, they will have no chance to get a reward, the way to be encouraged. Therefore, they will be tired of study, and hold a pessimistic attitude. For the good-study students, they will be nervous about their test and study, they will lose the pleasure of study. Thus, study will become a burden for them, which is harmful for the students.

However, if we award students for their effort, they may gain confidence and pleasure in study. Each time they make progress, they will receive a reward, this will give them the confidence in study, and they will become optimistic about themselves, their study as well. In addition, it is an easy and fair way to get encouragement, because everyone has the opportunity to make effort.

To sum up, the goal to get good grades often make the students nervous, and it seems to be a burden to them. Nonetheless, students will gain confidence in study and themselves if they are awarded when they make efforts. Thus, it is more important.

It may discourage the lower level students to continue putting effort on it.

第二个point, good grades 不会给人stress,应该是the demand to get good grades会给stress。
