To solve the problems present and future, is it necessary to understand the past? When it comes to the importance of the past, there always exist different viewpoints. Some, with the first expression, assert that understanding the past is not much beneficial to solving the problems present and future better. As far as I am concerned, I tend to place a high value on the past. I will explain my standpoint based on the following reasons. First of all, well understanding to the past contributes to resolving environmental problems more efficiently. Today, environment pollution is an increasingly serious problem facing all people in the world. It has posed a great threat to our existence. So eliminating this threat thoroughly becomes a thing with no time to delay. But how can we work out this problem effectively and as soon as possible? One of the most significant processes is learning the sources of the problem from the past. Take global warming for example, scientists exactly knowledge the polar caps are melting because of this. From leaning the past, the main cause of leading to the overmuch carbon dioxide is the unprecedented use of the fossil fuel over the past century. After leaning this, every country could raise some efficient solutions such as increasing the price of the fossil fuel and encouraging research and development of new energy. In the next place, leaning from the past is dispensable for the advancement of technology. As we know, a great invention usually needs effort of several generations of scientists. The span of a life is short, a scientist could not think of all things, But they could gather the information and experience brought by the predecessors. This enables them to leave out many inaccurate procedures and save a lot of time. For example, the current automobiles, actually, go through a lot of phases. Numerous scientists continuously improved them on the basis of former scientists. If not so, the convenient and comfortable automobiles will not come out eventually. Last but not least, to the dominator, absorbing the lesson from the past could prolong the life-span of the dynasty. Every dynasty has its own time of collapse. But if the dominator understands the past well and avoids most of the mistakes the former dynasty had made, it will relieve the coming of the time. The Tang Dynasty in china is a good example involving in it. since the some dominators learn from the past well, The Tong Dynasty had undergone several centuries in china. To sum up, taking all above-mentioned reasons into consideration, we can see how important it is to understand the past well. Because it contributes to solving the environmental problems and great inventions, at the same time, it also could prolong the life-span of the dynasty |
